The Trump Thread

Published

I confess to back pedaling into Trump territory when I wanted to leave discussions about him in the garbage can.  My thread on the read-only break room site has 9,600 replies so I thought I'd bring up a new one.

He's not going away.

Haberman's book is out based on interviews.  I won't read it, but the excerpts are interesting.  Especially what he says about McConnell, a description that's against the Terms of Service here, but I actually don't disagree with.  LOL

Quote

“At one point, Trump made a candid admission that was as jarring as it was ultimately unsurprising. ‘The question I get asked more than any other question: “If you had it to do again, would you have done it?”’Trump said of running for president. ‘The answer is, yeah, I think so. Because here’s the way I look at it. I have so many rich friends and nobody knows who they are.’ … Reflecting on the meaning of having been president of the United States, his first impulse was not to mention public service, or what he felt he’d accomplished, only that it appeared to be a vehicle for fame, and that many experiences were only worth having if someone else envied them.”

Fact check: Six days of Trump lies about the Hurricane Helene response

FEMA created Hurricane Helene: Rumor Response  to combat hurricane disinformation.

He literally says whatever he wants, no matter how false and outlandish. And the people believe him. In a same world he would be rejected as a lunatic.

This is so dangerous. The power he has to create an alternate reality is seriously trying out country apart.

His followers claim there aren't any reliable news sources because their leader makes them think he's the only one they can trust.

Trump was the largest source of misinformation about the pandemic and now he wants that distinction relative to this natural disaster in the south.

North Carolina newspaper slams Trumps Helene lies

Shame on Donald Trump for worsening NC's Helene tragedy with political lies

Quote

...This is not a situation to capitalize on for political gain. But former President Donald Trump has politicized the situation at every turn, spreading falsehoods and conspiracies that fracture the community instead of bringing it together.

The worst example is a social media post Trump made on Monday, in which he accused the federal government and Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper of "going out of their way to not help people in Republican areas. MAGA!” That same day, Trump also posted that the Biden administration has "left Americans to drown" in North Carolina and other states....

There's no evidence to support any of those ridiculous claims. And by every indication, state and federal agencies have been working to help people in need. They've been airlifting food and other supplies to affected areas. Helping families get information about missing loved ones. Providing monetary assistance to folks whose homes were destroyed. Working to clear and repair roads and get critical infrastructure back up and running.

It may not be enough, because this is one of the worst disasters our state has ever seen. It will take months and years to rebuild, and we still won't be able to recover everything that was lost. But the people of North Carolina have not been left out to dry. Their government has not abandoned them. The Republican governors of Georgia and South Carolina have expressed satisfaction with the federal response. ...

Kamala Harris said it well on The View:

"It's profound, and it is the height of irresponsibility and frankly callousness.... Lives are literally at stake right now," Harris said during an interview on ABC's "The View." "I mean we're talking about real human beings and their lives and they're losing everything, everything."

....

"He puts himself before the needs of others. I fear that he really lacks empathy on a very basic level to care about the suffering of other people and then understand the role of a leader is not to beat people down, it's to lift people up especially in a time of crisis," she added.

Following Helene, and Milton, Trump has repeatedly falsely claimed, without evidence, that the White House is diverting disaster relief aid to unrelated migrant programs. While FEMA does manage grants for housing and helping migrants, that is a separate account and unrelated to the disaster relief funds.

Trump is also falsely saying that the president wasn't picking up the calls and that there is an anti-Republican bias in how President Joe Biden and Harris are responding to the crisis.

The Trump administration blocked the FBI from conducting a thorough investigation into the sexual assault allegations that came out against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh during his confirmation hearing, Democratic senators allege in a new report, claiming the Trump White House limited the probe's scope and left out potential corroborating evidence.

Quote

"The Trump White House controlled the scope and conduct of the supplemental background investigation, specifically engineering it to exclude evidence that could have corroborated the allegations against Kavanaugh,” Whitehouse's report claims.

Quote

The Senate report cites communications showing FBI investigators were confused by public statements by Trump and members of his administration claiming that the agency had "free rein" to conduct its investigation and interview whomever was relevant, given the limited instructions the FBI received to only interview certain witnesses. When it comes to "supplemental" investigations into a nominee's background, the FBI can only investigate what the White House tells it to, the report notes, so the FBI could only have the flexibility that Trump claimed if his administration specifically told that to the FBI. FBI personnel asked the Trump administration if their directive had changed, given the then-president's public statements, but a Trump administration staffer said "only that the White House would be in touch if it had additional guidance,” the report alleges.

Imagine FBI investigators being "confused" by obvious gas lighting from a corrupt and manipulative liar.

That's correct, it should be a cake walk when one of the candidates literally tried to overthrow the 2020 election results and plans to transform our government into something other than what it currently is should he be elected.  It's rather stunning that so many Americans want to put that guy back in power.  I mean, he failed the biggest test of his presidency before he tried to break our government.

You are also correct that what happens in November may have little in common with the current polling. I think you'll agree that the June polling didn't March the election outcome in 2016, right?

It's only June.  You're going to hear lots more about Trump's felony convictions and other legal liabilities before we get to November.

Doesn't seem to be a cakewalk?

This seems like a farcical  bit from a Coen Brothers movie.

The "Trump Bible", that sells for $60 each, is made in China and worth less than $3 a copy. And the state of Oklahoma is looking to spend $3 million dollars on 55,000 copies to distribute in public schools.

That says something about the voters, doesn't it?  It should be a cakewalk when one of the candidates doesn't even value our elections or the peaceful transfer of power.

Says a lot about the current president and the ticket the Democrats are now offering the voters.

Really? I suppose that's what it says to those who would vote for Trump, the guy who is uniquely disqualified to be president.

Meanwhile, that elderly, corrupt and mentally ill candidate did an "interview" on another podcast the other day where the candidate experienced the host laughing at his claim that he's basically a truthful person.  Trump thought they were laughing with him about his rambling "weave", maybe.

I think you watch think and talk about Trump more than MAGA.
