The Trump Thread

Published

I confess to back pedaling into Trump territory when I wanted to leave discussions about him in the garbage can.  My thread on the read-only break room site has 9,600 replies so I thought I'd bring up a new one.

He's not going away.

Haberman's book is out based on interviews.  I won't read it, but the excerpts are interesting.  Especially what he says about McConnell, a description that's against the Terms of Service here, but I actually don't disagree with.  LOL

Quote

“At one point, Trump made a candid admission that was as jarring as it was ultimately unsurprising. ‘The question I get asked more than any other question: “If you had it to do again, would you have done it?”’Trump said of running for president. ‘The answer is, yeah, I think so. Because here’s the way I look at it. I have so many rich friends and nobody knows who they are.’ … Reflecting on the meaning of having been president of the United States, his first impulse was not to mention public service, or what he felt he’d accomplished, only that it appeared to be a vehicle for fame, and that many experiences were only worth having if someone else envied them.”

Trumps History of Inciting Violence

Donald Trump is the accelerant

A comprehensive timeline of Trump encouraging hate groups and political violence.

Quote

...As far back as 2015, Trump has been connected to documented acts of violence, with perpetrators claiming that he was even their inspiration. In fact, dozens of people enacted violence in Trump's name in the years before the Capitol attack, according to a 2020 report from ABC News.

In 2016, a white man told officers "Donald Trump will fix them" while being arrested for threatening his Black neighbors with a knife. That same year, a Florida man threatened to burn down a house next to his because a Muslim family purchased it, claiming that Trump's Muslim ban made it a reason for "concern.” Then there are the more widely known examples, like Cesar Sayoc, who mailed 16 inoperative pipe bombs to Democratic leaders and referred to Trump as a "surrogate father”; and the mass shooting in El Paso, Texas, in 2019 that left 23 dead, where the shooter's manifesto parroted Trump's rhetoric about immigrants.

In some cases, Trump denounces the violence, but he often walks back such statements, returning to a message of hate and harm. In August, he defended a teenage supporter who shot three people at a Black Lives Matter protest. And at the first presidential debate of the 2020 election, the president shocked many viewers when he was given an opportunity to condemn white supremacists, but declined.

In October, he equivocated on condemnation of the domestic terrorists who allegedly planned to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, after Trump had stoked outrage over the state's pandemic safety measures. He criticized Whitmer when the kidnapping plot was revealed and fished for compliments....

2015: Trump announces his presidential bid and quickly suggests violence is the answer to opposition

2016: At campaign rallies, Trump models the violence that he encourages by making a spectacle out of ejecting protesters

2017: With Trump in office, white supremacists organize and are emboldened to march in public; Trump also amplifies his attacks on the press

2018: Trump still fails to condemn white supremacists as hate crimes are on the rise

2019: Mass shootings and hate crimes linked to Trump's rhetoric continued, while he lashed out at a group of newly elected congresswomen

2020: Trump is explicit about the kinds of violence he is willing to use against Black Lives Matter protesters

2021: After losing the presidential election to Joe Biden, Trump continued a dangerous effort to overturn Biden's victory

2924: Add in Springfield, Ohio "cat eating comments" at a national debate watched by 71 million people , Senator/VP candidate Vance doubling down on internet posts resulting in bomb threats.

No, not presidential material to be a leader, role model for children nor commander-in chief holding nuclear codes. Don't need a divider running government.

But millions of Americans DO ignore or defend or justify or make excuses for the things Trump says.  Every day.

Trump admitted once that he didn't ask anyone, not even God, for forgiveness.

In that speech Trump notes that Jews will be at least partly to blame should he lose in November.

I wonder if Trump will own any blame, ever, for anything.

"If I don't win this election - and the Jewish people would really have a lot to do with that if that happens because if 40%, I mean, 60% of the people are voting for the enemy - Israel, in my opinion, will cease to exist within two years," Trump told the crowd.

Trump was citing a poll that he said showed Harris polling at 60% among American Jews. He also lamented winning less than 30% of the vote among American Jews in the 2016 election, which he won, and the 2020 election, which he lost to Democratic President Joe Biden.

Secret Service failures before the Donald Trump rally shooting were 'preventable,’ a bipartisan Senate panel finds

Quote

The interim report from the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee found multiple failures on almost every level ahead of the Butler, Pennsylvania shooting.

...Investigators found that there was no clear chain of command among the Secret Service and other security agencies and no plan for coverage of the building where the shooter climbed up to fire the shots. Officials were operating on multiple, separate radio channels, leading to missed communications, and an inexperienced drone operator was stuck on a help line after his equipment wasn't working correctly.

Communications among security officials were a "multi-step game of telephone," Peters said....

..The panel also interviewed a Secret Service counter-sniper who reported seeing officers with their guns drawn running toward the building where the shooter was perched, but the person said they did not think to notify anyone to get Trump off the stage....

Chaos is a feature of Trump's world.  Trump is chaotic and mentally ill and his influence on the people and groups nearest him is negative.  We saw this chaos during his presidency and we have observed it in his public life since he got fired in 2020.

Really? So you are blaming Trump for the failures of the SS now?

If Trump was killed by the bullet (glass shard according to you) , I suppose it would have been Trump's fault for placing his head in the exact spot that the bullet was moving?

This type of thinking/statement is exactly why people are willing to believe Trump is being persectued unfairly..

Trump is almost assassinated by 2 radicalized people in 9 weeks = Trump playing the victim.....

What a ridiculous idea. 🙄

I did, indeed, suggest that the very sloppy work of Trump's personal detail is possibly a consequence of Trump's in influence upon those agents.

Is it emotional for you to discuss the possibility that a mentally ill but influential liar and conman influenced some people in undesirable ways?  Why do you think that it's ridiculous to consider that Trump himself might influence security decisions or protocols when we have sworn testimony that Trump had previously influenced SS behavior, or at least tried to?

Hmmm ... I wonder if they ever found all those texts they claimed to have lost when the Jan. 6 Committee asked for them.

Help them out with what? Taxes get raised in Congress. It's wise to expect that congressional Republicans will continue to obstruct the agenda of a democratic president.  I think the DNC is trying to gain some House seats to help with that.
