The Trump Thread

Published

I confess to back pedaling into Trump territory when I wanted to leave discussions about him in the garbage can.  My thread on the read-only break room site has 9,600 replies so I thought I'd bring up a new one.

He's not going away.

Haberman's book is out based on interviews.  I won't read it, but the excerpts are interesting.  Especially what he says about McConnell, a description that's against the Terms of Service here, but I actually don't disagree with.  LOL

Quote

“At one point, Trump made a candid admission that was as jarring as it was ultimately unsurprising. ‘The question I get asked more than any other question: “If you had it to do again, would you have done it?”’Trump said of running for president. ‘The answer is, yeah, I think so. Because here’s the way I look at it. I have so many rich friends and nobody knows who they are.’ … Reflecting on the meaning of having been president of the United States, his first impulse was not to mention public service, or what he felt he’d accomplished, only that it appeared to be a vehicle for fame, and that many experiences were only worth having if someone else envied them.”

Trump's leadership during the pandemic was dreadful.  At first he came up with a good set of guidelines for the states in lockdown and then turned around and criticized the states for locking down while making an enemy of the CDC.  His leadership style is that of a bully.  People look up to that as being a tough macho tell it like it is leader but it really is off putting to me.

Again, like a good deal of the world, I'm left scratching my head about the two candidates.  "Is this the best a country as big as ours can do?"

Former President Donald Trump flouted the limits of presidential power unlike any of his recent predecessors, leaving behind a legacy of unmatched abuses that range from violations of longstanding norms to potentially criminal behavior.

It was hard to keep track amid the daily deluge of controversial tweets and distractions that were a hallmark of the Trump presidency. And some of the most egregious abuses of power weren't clear at the time but came into focus after exhaustive investigations.

To chronicle Trump's most consequential abuses of power, CNN spoke with a politically diverse group of constitutional scholars, presidential historians and experts on democratic institutions.

That's interesting...you often claim to obtain information from a variety of sources, but yet the only unflattering things you've seen about Biden's debate performance is "lots of hand wringing in social media forums and digital platforms.  The internet is alive with shorts which are unflattering for Biden."

Okie Dokie

Did I say that I hadn't seen those things or that I have my own opinion? Yes, I think it's hand wringing.  Biden had a bad debate, Trump was, still is, and will continue to be a corrupt candidate who tried to overthrow our government after he lost last time.  Trump and his sychophants keep saying things that suggest that they won't accept a loss this time either.

But, you know, there's some video of Joe to distract the masses from the clear Trump threat.  It's an effective strategy.  In November we discover if the strategy is successful in getting Trump into the presidency.

We have to be in a position where we allow those on the right to have their field day with the dreadful Biden debate, I don't blame them.  Yes, it's too bad that they don't acknowledge that while Trump held his own he lied and only focus on Biden, but I'm just going to sit back and let them criticize the Biden because they aren't wrong.  No need to clap back with a "but Trump........"  At the same time, I'm finding it interesting the back and forth I'm just saying what my approach is going to be moving forward.

Of course no one is talking about how the next day he performed well in Raleigh, saying "when you get knocked down you get back up" because the debate was so consequential.

Sure.  They need this kind of stuff because Trump is a fully corrupt candidate who really doesn't have any policy, as the debate revealed.

It's natural to expect that people will speak about Trump here in the Trump thread.

"They" can't just replace him right now and Pearson didn't express any sentiment to that effect.

When he said 'without giving this fight my all" it conveys an understanding that Biden might lose.  That's Democracy.  He's not setting us up "for the greatest fraud of all history if Biden loses".

A lot of Biden supporters are waking up to this reality that they can't let the debate make them change their vote for Biden or stop campaigning for him.  It's that important.  If he doesn't drop out and loses, then so be it, that's Democracy at least Pearson and others will have given it a good fight.

President Joe Biden's debate performance was a disaster. His disjointed responses and dazed look sparked calls for him to drop out of the presidential race.

But lost in the hand wringing was Donald Trump's usual bombastic litany of lies, hyperbole, bigotry, ignorance, and fear mongering. His performance demonstrated once again that he is a danger to democracy and unfit for office.

In fact, the debate about the debate is misplaced. The only person who should withdraw from the race is Trump.

To serve his country, Donald Trump should leave the race | Editorial

Biden had a horrible night Thursday. But the debate about the debate is misplaced. The only person who should withdraw from the race is Trump.

To build himself up, Trump constantly tears the country down. There is no shining city on the hill. It's just mourning in America.

Throughout the debate, Trump repeatedly said we are a "failing" country. He called the United States a "third world nation.” He said, "we're living in hell" and "very close to World War III.”

"People are dying all over the place,” Trump said, later adding "we're literally an uncivilized country now.”

Trump told more than 30 lies during the debate to go with the more than 30,000 mistruths told during his four years as president. He dodged the CNN moderators' questions, took no responsibility for his actions, and blamed others, mainly Biden, for everything that is wrong in the world.

Trump's response to the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection he fueled was farcical. He said a "relatively small number of people" went to the Capitol and many were "ushered in by the police.”

The debate served as a reminder of what another four years of Trump would look like. More lies, grievance, narcissism, and hate. Supporters say they like Trump because he says whatever he thinks. But he mainly spews raw sewage....

..If anything, Trump doesn't deserve to be on the presidential debate stage. Why even give him a platform?

Yes, Biden had a horrible night. He's 81 and not as sharp as he used to be. But Biden on his worst day remains lightyears better than Trump on his best.

Trump said Clinton shouldn't run under investigation. Now he's running as a convict

Quote

...Trump is now campaigning for president after losing one criminal case and still facing three others....

..."We need a government that can work and work well from day one for the American people. That will be impossible with Hillary Clinton, the prime suspect in a massive far-reaching criminal investigation. Her current scandals and controversies will continue throughout her presidency and will make it virtually impossible for her to govern or lead our country.”

New Jersey decides not to automatically renew some Trump liquor licenses, schedules July hearing

Some of Donald Trump's New Jersey liquor licenses were put in jeopardy after the state's Divison of Alcohol Beverage Control decided not to renew licenses at two of the former president's golf clubs following his conviction on 34 felony charges last month, Forbes reported Friday.

Earlier this month, the New Jersey attorney's general's office said it was investigating Trump's eligibility to hold liquor licenses at three of his golf courses in the state, NBC News reported. Two of the clubs, Bedminster and Colt Neck, were denied renewals but granted temporary permission to continue serving alcohol until a hearing on the matter is scheduled July, 19, Forbes reported.

Under state law, liquor licenses are denied to any person "who has been convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude." The state's Alcohol Beverage Control handbook states that "moral turpitude" refers to "a serious crime from the viewpoint of society in general and usually contains elements of dishonesty, fraud or depravity."...

best line "we can't be serious about letting such a crooked clown back in the White House".

There should be a revolution and revolt and we should start over and realize our mistakes in giving Trump and Biden the nominations.
