The Trump Thread

Published

I confess to back pedaling into Trump territory when I wanted to leave discussions about him in the garbage can.  My thread on the read-only break room site has 9,600 replies so I thought I'd bring up a new one.

He's not going away.

Haberman's book is out based on interviews.  I won't read it, but the excerpts are interesting.  Especially what he says about McConnell, a description that's against the Terms of Service here, but I actually don't disagree with.  LOL

Quote

“At one point, Trump made a candid admission that was as jarring as it was ultimately unsurprising. ‘The question I get asked more than any other question: “If you had it to do again, would you have done it?”’Trump said of running for president. ‘The answer is, yeah, I think so. Because here’s the way I look at it. I have so many rich friends and nobody knows who they are.’ … Reflecting on the meaning of having been president of the United States, his first impulse was not to mention public service, or what he felt he’d accomplished, only that it appeared to be a vehicle for fame, and that many experiences were only worth having if someone else envied them.”

Trump can say whatever he wants and his people believe him. He just stood up there and made up whatever he wanted.
Biden needs to be replaced for the good of the country. He has zero chance of winning at this point

Zero?

All I care about at this point is that our Constitution holds up through the next four years.

Trump winning puts that in severe jeopardy because his followers have not held him accountable.

A new term with his carefully picked advisors and cabinet puts a real possibility that he will do some real damage.

It's almost guaranteed that our republic will be harmed by another Trump power trip.  Trump's felony indictments would require Trump to change the laws regarding legal accountability and presidential powers to save himself.  He would need to retain power to stay out of prison in Georgia.

Trump has a much better idea how to maximize his grift from the presidency now.  Only a few things need to be tweaked, the SCOTUS will help.  Already they've said that money received after an action wouldn't count as a bribe or corruption.

You think that independents and moderates will vote for the crazy guy or won't vote at all after the debate?

I thought he lost his train of thought once but overall stayed on topic and answered the questions.  Trump got under his skin a couple of times with the lies and made up data. His opponent didn't seem to have any policy to talk about and by the end of the debate his rants were mostly unrelated to reality.  Mostly Biden looked old and his opponent looked big time angry.

That's by far the best review of Biden I've seen.

Except for Jill's praise of him.  Reminds me of when my mom was pleased about anything I did in elementary school.

The exception being he did go after Hunter once, I believe.  After Joe went after him first.

I saw him use Hunter's name twice, and referred to The Laptop once. And he called talked about China making Biden rich and calling him the Manchurian Candidate. I felt like he insulted women by saying they murder their newborns (abortion after delivery), and insulted black citizens by saying immigrants are taking their jobs.

No, I didn't see him attack the moderators, the way I expected, ala Megan Kelly.  I did notice that he ignored a lot of questions, just to insult Biden.

Justice John Roberts says the Supreme Court's last decisions of this term are coming on Monday including whether former President Trump has immunity from prosecution.  Think this decision will have  the biggest impact on presidential race and influence if Trump can keep lying like he did in last nights debate.

Since you didn't see much of the debate you'll have to depend upon the assessments of others. Do you remember when Trump was president and before  cabinet meetings started Trump wanted all of the people at the table to praise him first in front of the media cameras?  It's odd that you spoke about the First Lady supporting her spouse in that way after experiencing that with Trump.  Well, maybe not odd, maybe expected in all of its double standard magnificence is more accurate.

After their weird interpretation of law announced today along with their ruling that it's not really bribery if you get paid after the act, it's easy to believe that right wing extremists may have won the lottery with this current court.

I watched all of the debate.  And anyone who has spent 10 minutes surfing the news sites knows that his performance was deemed terrible by almost everybody.

As another watcher, Trump did not answer some of the questions posed to him, multiple lies, scowled and looked angry.   My 89yo aunt agreed Biden had poor performance, not the same person I saw and heard speaking coherently + off the cuff remarks day after state of the union.  Not good Presidential material for next 4 years.

I was impressed with Trump's restaint.  I was dreading he would attack Biden over his cognition. He made one comment that "I'm not sure what the last thing he said was, I don't think he does either" when discussing Medicare and Biden mumbled off and didn't make sense.

I cringe when Trump say things like "I have the best ever in history of all time bla bla.." . However this was still less then his usual habit.

He spent too much time trying to retort Biden instead of answering the questions.

Biden was the one to call names, surprisingly Trump did not.

The moderators were great, biggest  surprise for me. Trump didn't attack them once.

Trump was able to deliver his stance on abortion and affirm he would not federally ban abortion. Biden defaulted the usual Democrat answer that it's between a woman and her Dr. But came out allot different by refering to the Dr and forgetting about the women. Nonetheless, I knew what he meant. He wouldn't provide a term limit for abortion which is standard democrat.

He often deflected and/or went back to finish what he wanted to say about the previous topic to get in what he wanted to get in.  That's not new in debates, and Biden did it a few times as well.

I didn't really see misplaced anger at anytime.

I understand that many don't think Trump is good presidential material.  That's not new.  Kind of a silly thing to bring up in a discussion of how bad the other guy was.  No reasonable person could conclude Biden is fit to be president after watching that last night.
