The Story of Jahi Continues

Published

Hey everyone. I have been following this thread from afar for a while now. I saw where someone had posted that the grandmothers license was retired but I can't seem to find that. I looked on Nursys and the California LVN BON and there is only one person with the grandmothers name and the license is listed as active on both. Was she practicing under a different name than what Google gave me?

Also, she has been reported to the BON by at least three different people, none of which were me. If her license is still active it doesn't appear as though they did anything.

THIS doesn't make sense to me. You can suction a conscious person. Trach patients are the first that come to mind with this but yeah, I don't think LOC prevents suctioning.

If a patient is conscious enough to eat a hamburger one assumes their swallowing reflex is intact

So why would someone be suctioning a patient with an intact swallow reflex unless there were major secretions

I'm pretty sure suctioning isn't the issue... But eating a hamburger after a child just had throat surgery just seems to be worst idea ever. I think anyone with a bit of common sense would not do that.

I really hope that's just a nasty Internet rumor. Because if it isn't that family is carrying some well deserved guilt.

The way I understood it was that they were using a yankauer, not a deep suction catheter. The yankauer was used to control all the bleeding, not to suction out the hamburger.

How the hell does one "accidentally" call herself a Registered Nurse when she isn't one?!

Seems pretty clear intent to misrepresent her status....which is why that lawyer got her out of there fast. Maybe before she had another "acccident" of speech...

Im anxiously waiting for CHO to finally get to tell us what really happened! The Drs and nurses who were there caring for Jahi deserve to have their reputations cleared. I think HIPAA needs to change. The charges were made public knowledge over a year ago, there should be some provision for a hospital to be able me forward to defend itself.

How about adding a provision that states if you grant interviews and post on social media about the issue, you have waived your HIPAA rights by making part of the medical record public, and the hospital/doctor/facility/nurse you're accusing has the right to make the rest of it public in their defense?

An interesting article on the indications and risks of T&A, UPPP and submucous resection of bilateral inferior turbinates as a treatment for sleep apnea and the incidence of bad outcomes.

I would love to know what happened in the OR and the PACU as well.

More about then 8 year old Rebecca Jimenez. This appalling case of gross negligence occurred at CHO in 2011.

that article isn't about the procedure that Jahi had, it's another biased article that just repeats the same one sided story that the McMaths have been claiming....

Did grandma say 'RN' or did she say nurse?

She would not be lying if she said nurse?

Answer to your question, Smartnurse:

About the bites of hamburger you are referring to. It was on national TV that grandmother was feeding her bites of her favorite food: hamburgers. Grandmother stated,"she started choking, so I suctioned her. I am a registered nurse." Very quickly the lawyer tapped the grandmother on the shoulder. The grandmother stopped talking. The camera panned to the uncle. When the camera zoomed back out, the grandmother was gone and another relative was sitting in her spot. I saw this with my own eyes and heard this with my own ears.
