Just a bit ago the top three threads involved:
1.I have a DWI. Can I be a nurse?
2.I am stupid. Can I be a nurse?
3.If it takes me five times to pass NCLEX, Can I be nurse.
Not much left to add. Says it all.
I'm with you guys. I just turned 34 when I graduated, so while I'm a noob to the nursing world, I've had plenty of life experience. I feel like I've earned my semi crusty old bat status. I'm old enough to have learned much about life AND old enough to know when to ask for help/not think I know everything.Ok, then what catergory do we fit into? I'll be later 30's by the time I graduate and start my career in nursing, so I won't fall into the young/hot nurse league. But you are right, I will not have earned my crusty status either.
No one believes that I'm 34 (guess I've got good genes), so maybe I could still fit in with the hot young nurses too.
As we "speak," I am posting right next to my cap, which is sitting on my bookshelf. It's a bit yellowed and stained, but there it is. I wish I knew of a company that cleans and preserves nursing caps. I've looked on google, but came up with bupkis.
Talk to a local dry cleaner who preserves wedding gowns -- it's probably the same process.
Yes, I admit, I haven't earned my nursing status. Will not consider myself a crusty old bat yet. But, I'm mature enough to not act like an indulged "special little snowflake" either! The grey hair will be in evidence because I'm allergic to haircolor. Can't do anything about that. And, if I'm a little intimidating to the younger set only because of my age, I'll use it to my advantage!
OK, I confess, I had to laugh when I saw the URL regarding cleaning,,etc of nursing cap... ANTIQUE fabric.. Honey, I am old, but not quite THAT old..... LOL... oh wait, maybe I am... been a nurse 20 years now and am 54!!!!
can I join the crusty old bat society??!!! PLEASEEEEE>> its my DREAAAMMMMMMMmmmm:)

Of course you're a crusty old bat! (Ever think that would be a compliment?)
Is there an age limit for crusty old bat status? I haven't quite hit the big 3-oh yet, but I've got the gray hair and the desire to smack all these young'uns without a lick of common sense upside the head. Does that count for anything?
Just to prove how senseless these young'uns can be- did you see the news about the nursing student who, instead of using the time to study, wasted time thinking of the idea to call in not one but two bomb threats to her school to get out of taking tests?

sure you can. just copy and paste the siggy line in your siggy preferences and you're all set. but you have to be able to be a cranky ol' gal sometimes. and attend the double-secret meetings in the hall tunnels under the hospital, next door to the morgue. bring your metal tubex and the key to the locked leathers.
