The Mockery of Nursing

Published

Just a bit ago the top three threads involved:

1.I have a DWI. Can I be a nurse?

2.I am stupid. Can I be a nurse?

3.If it takes me five times to pass NCLEX, Can I be nurse.

Not much left to add. Says it all.

Hah, years ago our Staffing Office used to be down in the tunnels and it backed onto the morgue.

How can anyone over the age of 40 (30 maybe) be a nurse at the bedside. They move too slow, can't lift patients without help, and expect me to stay off my cellphone at the nurse's station when I'm not in a patient room. I mean, if I'm not in a patient's room or charting, isn't the time I'm at the desk MY time? Sheesh....and really, they think that just because they've worked at XYZ unit for a gazillion years, they should have first dibs on the favorite holidays to be off. I mean, I need to go see Uncle Gus and Aunt Selma this Christmas and I was told that I'm on duty. Really?

And, this one:

My teacher wants to fail me just because I tried to flush the IV line with tap water before I spiked the bag. I did what she told me to and just because I'm smarter than her---this IS my second career after all---she gave me a clinical failure!!!! I just don't understand....

Don't forget - how dare someone 20 years younger than me try and order me around simply because she has been a nurse longer than me!

"can i join the crusty old bat society??!!! pleaseeeee>> its my dreaaammmmmmmmmmm:)"

sure you can. just copy and paste the siggy line in your siggy preferences and you're all set. but you have to be able to be a cranky ol' gal sometimes. and attend the double-secret meetings in the hall tunnels under the hospital, next door to the morgue. bring your metal tubex and the key to the locked leathers.:p

aha. i kept wondering if i could join the crusty old bat society. now i know: since i am old enough to have used the metal tubex- and still have one!- i can join. wahoo!

Please tell me this isn't real. And if it is, where's the link? I've gotta see this one to believe it!

this crusty wears her cap and full whites every shift i work during nurses week. have the best behaved patients on the unit then

actually haven't updaed that. it's now 25 years and i have the gray hair(artfully covered up with blonde dye of course)and the attitude to prove it.

all haill to those of us who actually wore a nursing cap!!!!!!

and yes, it's a cap not a hat!!!!

to both of these . . "nurse hat" [color=#2f4f4f][color=#2f4f4f]shudder

i still have mine - i don't like it much (the silhouette in my avatar shows how it sort of perched on top of our heads although i do think it's cool that i wore the traditional garb at one time.

as far as i'm concerned the rule should be "crusty old bats of all ages" - (sort of a take-off of professor marvel in the wizard of oz "children of all ages" :))

What scares me even more is the number of posters who pat the poster on the head and say "There, there, you can still be a nurse." I'm a convicted axe murderer. Can I still be a nurse?

But there is, like, a difference between being an axe murderer and shoplifting. Although - if the OP wasn't trolling which I think s/he was - getting caught shoplifting a few months before applying to nursing school is quite a bit different then "hey, I did something really dumb when I was a teenager and it's coming back to haunt me five-ten years later." Y'KNOW???

I was a serial killer when I was underage, in my state, for serious offenses, you have to appeal.... Should I wait until I can have my juvenile records sealed? That was X numbers of years ago, and I haven't been caught....I mean, done that since. Can I have my dream?

Wow, you should give us your advise on Dexter. Unless, you do not have what it takes to be in a leadership position.
