Just a bit ago the top three threads involved:
1.I have a DWI. Can I be a nurse?
2.I am stupid. Can I be a nurse?
3.If it takes me five times to pass NCLEX, Can I be nurse.
Not much left to add. Says it all.
Well I'm going to put myself out there as the world's most cynical person but it seems like every week someone comes along with a post about how there is too much negativity on this site and let's talk about what we LIKE about nursing.
At first it was kind of nice to talk about the good things, but now I see those posts and I just groan inwardly.

It's ok to be cynical. :) I didn't see any of those other threads, so I started that one. I wouldn't say that the site as a whole is overly negative as much as it is "realistic". This realism is something I actually appreciate. Hearing the voices from the new and seasoned nurses in the trenches has given me a good perspective of what to expect and what it takes to become and be a good and competent nurse.
In the spirit of *this* thread I will get a little cynical myself* and say that I'm also surprised at the number of threads started by students and new nurses whose DREAAAAAMMMMBs sound like they expect being a nurse means living in a light-hearted slapstick comedy like [scrubs]. I hope to $diety I don't sound anything like that.
*(even if I'm still too much of a newbie around here to have earned the right to be cynical or critical of anyone)

A la Mary Poppins: "just a spoonful of cynicism helps the medicine go down.....la, la, la":bugeyes:
i think the artist is john callahan. titled "the realist."
i love that. here's some other greats:
[color=#333333]...an engineer says that the glass is too big.
[color=#333333]or:
[color=#333333]...an engineer says the container is twice the size it needs to be
.[color=#333333]..a realist says it doesan't matter. it's just gonna have to be washed later anyways
[color=#333333]
...the fda says the glass has a design flaw and needs to be sent back to china to be re-engineered
[color=#333333]
...a republican says "who's been drinking out of my glass?"
[color=#333333]
...a zen master picks up the glass and drinks
[color=#333333]
...an opportunist drinks the contents while the other two argue
[color=#333333]
...an accountant wants to know why you're wasting money on a glass that's obviously too large
[color=#333333]
...a physicist says the glass is neither. it is completely full, half with water, the other half with air
[color=#333333]
...an analyst says it is neither, it simply contains 50% of its potential capacity.
question: what does the nurse say? aside from the glass full of pee.
I don't think this site is cynical, either. Personally, I like the realism. Work is hard. It's not always fun. You don't always want to go in. That's life. I love my job but it's also hard. I like seeing that other nurses have some of the same difficulties I do. Maybe I'm good with all this because nursing wasn't always my DDDDDDDRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!! It's something I fell into. :)

Of course you can. You know what they say: "Fairy tales can come true, it can happen to you, if you're young at heart."
