Yes, witnesses appearing in person and testifying is much different. That's not what you said, however. Likely because we all know Trump didn't actually send people to violently storm the Capitol, so there is no one to actually testify to that.

Thats called hearsay. Except for a few exceptions, of which I don't see any that would apply here, that kind of testimony wouldnt be allowed in a court if law. But, this is a theatrical production, so we may see it.

If republicans do not believe in the constitution or the system of laws America developed and uses, I don't think that this country is for them. 7 out of the last 8 elections, republicans have lost the popular vote. Did the Dems revolt or become uncivilized?
When you choose to live in a society or a community, you have decided to abide by the laws of that society. When you step outside of those laws, you are banished or punished! That is the CORNERSTONE of EVERY SINGLE society that has ever existed! Note the word CORNERSTONE! Do you know what a cornerstone is? Take a cornerstone away and the ENTIRE STRUCTURE CRUMBLES!
Now just imagine if Trump, the CORNERSTONE, hadn't said a word or even appeared, would that riot have happened? What or who was the catalyst for the riot? Take that out of the equation and the riot wouldn't have occurred! Therefore using elementary deduction, THAT CATALYST, was the reason for the riot! That's what this impeachment is about! It's also about a referendum of 50 republican Senators and the precedent they set going forward. What is their value system? What are they going to defend? The American constitution and laws or a person?
In real life if I come across people like Trump and I am unable to get away from them or they won't take a hint to stay away from me, I snap them like a twig, without a moments consideration because I know for a fact that they will hurt me or someone I care about and never break a sweat about their actions! I provide them with a lesson that even a sociopath would understand!

And he's collected a gang of similar criminals who do not respect the constitution or law and order. They like pushing boundaries but don't like accountability for their actions.

The entire world is watching! And judging the American people by what they are seeing. I also have no doubt whatsoever that it doesn't matter to you what the world thinks because you probably never travel anywhere. People who travel understand the concept of laws and obeying them. They respect other cultures and value the countries that provide safe avenues of exploring their countries.

No one said what happened on the 6th was justified. It was horrible, and everyone who participated should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

What do you think of Ted Cruz? His wife was called ugly, his father was introduced into an assassination and he was called lying Ted Cruz. And he defends the person who did those things to him.
What sort of person do you think he actually is? Would you have him for a friend? Can you trust him?. He is considered a senior member of the GOP.. If his character is dubious based on what I mentioned above and he is a senior member, what does it say about the organization that places him in that senior position?

Chare hopefully you never have to experience it, but there are some people that are just BAD! People who repeatedly beat their wives and children, commit crimes against others, take things that doesn't belong to them and they do this because they have never had to suffer the consequences of their actions because generally they pick on people smaller than they are or afraid.
I am an extremely quiet polite person preferring to listen, but some people take that for weakness especially since I am reasonably well educated with the vocabulary to prompt bullies to mess around with me. I always try to get away from such people or if unable, let them know directly that I don't want them around me, but bullies are generally poor judges of character.
I am quite a big, but agile guy and because of my quiet nature, men have this stupid testosterone thing that makes them want to do stupid things. I was small growing up which is why I despise bullies. I was sent to judo and savate' classes to give me some confidence. In high school I grew 10 inches to my present height of 6'4".
So like I said, if I am unable to get away from a bullying person and they won't listen to reason, I prompt them in their language as to why they should be away from me. Some people are predators and they are always looking for prey. If you display fear, you will be bullied. Fortunately for me, I can defend myself. My sister is 6' and she's even worse than my mother who's only 5'6", and extremely bossy but also extremely kind. She's just a mean person, my sister and I am talking from experience.
You have to let bullies know that you won't tolerate their behavior or they will run right over you and onto the next victim.
