I traditionally have a thread heading to the election, here we go.
Get out the popcorn for this one.
QuoteFlorida Gov. Ron DeSantis is expected to formally announce next week he is running for president in 2024, NBC News reported Thursday, citing two sources familiar with the matter.
The governor's official entry into the Republican primary field will put him head-to-head with former President Donald Trump, the party's current frontrunner for the nomination. Trump has already spent months treating DeSantis as his primary campaign rival, thrashing him with torrents of criticism over his gubernatorial record, his political skills and his personality.

Tweety is correct. I should have used quotation marks. Dear Leader said this during one of the debates.
When will Allnurses add a sarcasm font?

Yes, I suppose adding a "sarcasm font" might be helpful. Equally helpful might be not attributing Mr. Trump's actions and words to another, or assuming that they are going tobact as Mr. Trump, based solely on the fact the they are Republican.
My dislike of Gov. Desantis has nothing to do with his party affiliation.
I was trying to compare his hesistance/reluctance to denounce Nazis with the former president's reluctance to denounce the Proud Boys, White Nationalists and QAnon.
As I have stated many times prior, I do not belong to any organized political party.

On the other hand, when someone shows you who they are, believe them. DeSantis is attempting to rerun trump's 2016 playbook which, in turn, was developed by the Republican party with their southern strategy and commitment to a durable republican majority.
Sorry, chare, but at this point, DeSantis and trump are as republican as it gets. If that's upsetting, I suggest you stop policing liberals' language, take back control of your party and advance candidates who actually articulate your values. To quote another old bromide: those who refuse to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
DeSantis's playbook is indeed similar to Trump's in that it attracts fringes like the Neo-Nazi's, and in that he called Trump's indictment a "mortal threat to a free society". He also talks about how he would revamp the DOJ. The republican playbook that suddenly under Trump the DOJ, the Department of Education, the CDC and the FBI are all not to be trusted has been interesting. DeSantis goes along with that.

I agree. Mr. DeSantis should have immediately condemned this. Nor do I understand his reluctance to do so. As bad as this is, in my opinion it pales in comparison to Mr. Trump's "stand back and stand by" comment. And while Mr. Trump tried to walk this back the next day this was much worse than not denouncing the Proud Boys. What he was saying, regarding potentially violent action by the Proud Boys with this statement was this: not here, not now.

My intent wasn't to "police" anyone's language. I wasn't sure what @nursej22 was trying to say or whether she was aware if the meaning of the phrase. My comment was not intended to disparage her intelligence, and I apologize if it was taken that way. In retrospect I should have left it there and not wrote my second response.
As for the Republican party being "my party," as it moved on in a direction I was unwilling to follow, I changed my voter registration to independent over a year ago.

Fair enough. It mystifies me that all the current primary candidates are magadonians - except Christie, who's more of a ride-the-coattails kinda guy. Is the GOP truly that bankrupt?
Miami mayor Suarez has apparently entered the republican primary. I haven't found much info other than the usual schtick. (Haven't looked real hard, either.) What's the word?
So far, I've read that he's done a good job in Miami. Does that give him the governing chops to run the country? I read something about running a government based on free-market principles. Ummm, hard no for me, at least for now. On the other hand, Miami is a beach city and Suarez has the sense to at least talk about climate adaptability and planning. Plus, Miami crime rate is down and trump's indictment happened quietly.

I took is as a reference to DeSantis's former love of Trump and all things authoritarian and I think that was the spirit in which it was posted. DeSantis is a scary person who goes out on a limb for a grudge and a vote from a Proud Boy is a vote.

Don't you think that people expect that DeSantis may act a certain way based upon his own remarks and actions rather than his political party affiliation? I do.
