The election 2024 Thread

Published

I traditionally have a thread heading to the election, here we go.

Get out the popcorn for this one.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is expected to formally announce next week he is running for president in 2024, NBC News reported Thursday, citing two sources familiar with the matter.

The governor's official entry into the Republican primary field will put him head-to-head with former President Donald Trump, the party's current frontrunner for the nomination. Trump has already spent months treating DeSantis as his primary campaign rival, thrashing him with torrents of criticism over his gubernatorial record, his political skills and his personality.

So Haley did have her town hall and I didn't watch it because I don't have cable TV and get most of my news online or through podcasts.

I will say her style is a bit refreshing compared to Trump.

Republicans have a "winner takes all delagates at the convention" so, as it stands right now, she doesn't have a chance.  A crowded field will benefit Trump by spreading out the votes just like before.  But anything can happen.

I hate to say that I was reading an article this morning about how Robert Kennedy Jr.'s Instagram account has been restored after he violated their Covid misinformation policy because he's running for President.  Somehow I missed that he was running for President.  In my defense I didn't pay much attention to the world the last few months for working overtime (I am now 100% debt free again after a bathroom remodel.  We have have nurses off orientation and no overtime is needed so I'm paying more attention these days.)

I don't think his anti-vax and other ideas are popular with Democrats.

Desantis will not get the "woke" vote, and I sincerely doubt he will get much support from women of childbearing age. But it appears he has the Nazis locked in.

I'm waiting to hear what DeSantis is going to say about this.

He's addressed it in the past.

But not always.  But hey, a vote is a vote.

When I click on the first link, the video describes the governor signing a digital privacy bill. The article says he was concerned about them doing something illegal  on the overpass. Also, he seems to brag about doing things for Orthodox Jews. Um, even people who aren't Jewish condemn Nazis. Doesn't seem that tough.

But as you say, a vote is a vote.

A dozen losers,  one DeSantis flag in the pic.  Why give this group or the political adversary making hay of it any attention?

And, by your logic Disney must also support Nazis.

"Representatives for DeSantis and Disney did not immediately respond to requests for comment."

The video seems to be a rotating video.  The video I see now is one about the "State of the County" and doesn't match the article.  I've noticed this before on other news sites.

His approach to Neo-Nazi support seems to be "Democrats are using this against me..." and play the victim.  I can't imagine today he won't make some kind of condemnation because the call from all sides seems to be critical of his slow response.

Obviously they are an extreme fringe that DeSantis has nothing to do with and presumably doesn't support.  But because they used his likeness he should comment.

Why give it attention?  This:

The U.S. is dealing with record highs of violence and hate speech directed at Jewish communities. According to the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), there were 3,697 antisemitic incidents recorded in 2022, a 36% increase compared to 2021's record figures and the highest number since the ADL started keeping such statistics in 1979.

Florida, according to the Anti-Defamation League's Annual Audit of antisemitic incidents, has seen a similarly troubling trend. Harassment incidents jumped from 142 in 2021 to 214 in 2022, a 51% increase. Vandalism spiked by 15%, up from 47 in 2021 to 54 in 2022. In one incident, three assailants during a neo-Nazi demonstration in Orlando assaulted a Jewish college student.

Maybe Desantis should just tell them to stand down and stand by.

You do realize that telling them to stand by is the same as telling them to be or to get ready to act?

I'm sure it's a sarcastic reference flashing back to Trump but I can't speak for her.
