I traditionally have a thread heading to the election, here we go.
Get out the popcorn for this one.
QuoteFlorida Gov. Ron DeSantis is expected to formally announce next week he is running for president in 2024, NBC News reported Thursday, citing two sources familiar with the matter.
The governor's official entry into the Republican primary field will put him head-to-head with former President Donald Trump, the party's current frontrunner for the nomination. Trump has already spent months treating DeSantis as his primary campaign rival, thrashing him with torrents of criticism over his gubernatorial record, his political skills and his personality.
Beerman said:Let's actually secure the border and do something that curtains the huge numbers of migrants entering, as in millions in the last three years.
Maybe something like the House passed last year and that Schumer and the Senate have failed to do anything with.
You didn't answer the question. Once again, with feeling ...
What do you object to in the latest bill and what would you do to change it?
Beerman said:Maybe, maybe not. This bill doesn't clean up the mess.
Maybe the Democrats picked now to come up with a lousy bill so they could either get what they want or try to make the Republicans look bad for killing it? Remember, according to them there was no crisis at the border and the border has been secure. Until now.
Who would be naive enough to believe that a single bill would solve immigration? What is it about this bill that makes the situation worst?

I don't believe that particular talking point has anything to do with the reality of wannabe immigrants at the Mexican border. It's meant to flood the zone - as Stene Bannon calls it - a la saint Ronald and the Iran hostage crisis in 1980.
GOP attempts to oust Dem Senator Jon Tester, Montana just got harder. Rosendale ran against Tester last election didn't appeal to independents.
Hard-right lawmaker could disrupt GOP plans to take Senate
Conservative Rep. Matt Rosendale jumped into the race, defying GOP leaders.

Good news. Jon Tester impressed me in the interviews I've seen. Personable and very smart.

I agree. Tester is a pragmatic senator and represents his constituents well. He doesn't attempt to run peoples lives or try to prove to everyone that he's the smartest guy in the room. I would be surprised if he even talks to lobbyists or takes any corporate campaign contributions.
Democrats might need a Plan B. Biden wins the nomination but declines it.

Our democracy is on the line. The current political opposition is always seeking chaos and discord. Sometimes the media plays into that, too often, in fact.
The important story isn't that he's old or makes verbal gaffes. The real story is that Biden is standing against a political opponent who demonstrates no loyalty to truth, law and order, or the constitution. The real story is that the republican party is enabling a mentally ill authoritarian who literally tells them that he will terminate portions of the constitution or consider assassination of generals who disagree with his self absorbed "foreign policy".
I'm just not buying into the hand-wringing. Biden is doing his job and he seems to be reasonably successful, maybe even skilled at making progress even in the face of practiced obstruction. The media is really pushing this narrative, that Biden is too old. Are they afraid to be equally bold with a narrative about Trump's existential threat to our republic as their leading story in this election year?

YES, as it will hurt their viewership and pocketbook $$$.
Good to see Biden campaign putting content on Tik-Tok (Grows the economy) and Truth Social (Malarkey ends here) to grab online social media viewers.

Humor is a good way to reach people.

Biden is only 4 years older than Trump but functions as if he were younger and certainly in better mental health. But I do wonder who are the annointed ones in plan B.

I expect that the polls will continue to show Trump struggling to overcome the negative publicity that his legal troubles being to the election cycle. I'm still hoping that Haley takes her campaign so the way to the July convention. There's a reasonable chance that Trump will be busy defending himself in court in July.
I know that Quinnipiac calls have their name in the caller ID and they leave a message if their call is not answered. Not all polls do that. When their call is not answered they move on to the next phone number. They give the public a picture of a moment in time that is not (historically) predictive but is very informative. Personally, I don't take calls from unknown numbers.
