I traditionally have a thread heading to the election, here we go.
Get out the popcorn for this one.
QuoteFlorida Gov. Ron DeSantis is expected to formally announce next week he is running for president in 2024, NBC News reported Thursday, citing two sources familiar with the matter.
The governor's official entry into the Republican primary field will put him head-to-head with former President Donald Trump, the party's current frontrunner for the nomination. Trump has already spent months treating DeSantis as his primary campaign rival, thrashing him with torrents of criticism over his gubernatorial record, his political skills and his personality.

Taylor Swift to the White House when they host the Chiefs, since apparently her endorsement of Biden is important. She's not the first celebrity to get political. Streisand was a big Clinton supporter for example. But apparently Taylor Swift has people loosing their minds and is getting a lot of attention over on Fox where's she's part of the tool, rather than an independent voter making up her own mind. I guess there's some idea floating around that people will vote for Biden just because she tells them to, like a cult leader.

Apparently, she's sho entrenched in what people don't like, I all kinds of conspiracies are out there about her, including this off topic one " Taking to X, formerly Twitter, content creator Adin Ross stated that the "49ers deserved that win. It's so rigged I hope you guys can see it for what it is, truly rigged. Chiefs you guys got so lucky Taylor Swift bailed you guys out."
I hope she gets invited to the White House because I want to sit and eat popcorn.
Shared delusion and agitation over silly, unimportant issues in right wing media is evidence that Trump's base support functions exactly like a cult.

I love the hyperbole. In your linked article it referenced a couple of short clips from Fox, a few weeks ago. I don't know that she is getting that much attention at Fox. I'm certainly not convinced people are "losing their minds".
I do think it's pertinent that they called her out as a climate activist on her using a private jet instead of taking a 3 hour car trip from NYC to Baltimore.

Apparently, that idea is floating around the Biden campaign if her endorsement is that important.

People have floated these kind of "the game is rigged" conspiracies regarding the NFL and NBA for decades. They have more of a money aspect to them than politics. Of course it's ridiculous. Apparently Swift brings publicity and money to the NFL. But, they aren't exactly poor in those things without her.

Don't pop your popcorn yet. If they go, it usually isn't until Summer.
If Joe is replaced by then, she would probably be more likely to make an endorsement. As things are at the moment, I'm sure her PR people are advising her not to touch him with a 10 foot pole, imo.
And, I know what you meant by "KC's biggest fan". But, many lifelong Chief's fans, including a good friend, didn't see them win a Superbowl until they were in their late 40's. Swift probably never gave the Chiefs a moments thought until she started dating one of them last Summer. My friend would be disappointed if I didn't issue you a friendly correction ?

Where else are people getting these crazy right wing beliefs except in right wing social media reinforced by right wing mainstream media? It's certainly not evidence of sound mind and cognitive faculties to believe and repeat nonsense and lies about a celebrity or a "rigged" game. Have you thought about how these people are radicalized? Or maybe you don't think it's radical to carry on about a celebrity at a sporting event like they have been about Swift.
Yes, calling her out on emissions is pertinent in that it readily highlights the hypocrisy at the core of the right wing cultural wars and their general indifference to climate sciences. All of a sudden, Taylor Swift made them concerned about carbon emissions.
It's funny that you are pushing the right wing notion that Biden will be replaced by Summer when it's Biden's opponent who is in danger of a criminal conviction and who keeps demonstrating that he is a danger to this republic and to global alliances against threats like Russia. Of course, there's no danger that the cult will set the cult leader aside because of legal peril or convictions. They certainly won't set him aside for un-American utterances, beliefs, or actions. The cult and the cult leader will simply declare any undesirable verdict as evidence that the system is rigged against Trump. They don't accept election results, jury decisions, or any laws which might limit "dear leader's" behavior.
Who would guess that it would be off putting that someone might call Swift the "biggest fan" in the era where conservatives fawn over a man like Trump. He has perfected hyperbole, especially when describing his own wealth or physique or intellect. What a weird thing to highlight when Trump supporters seem to exist in a delusion when it comes to describing Trump.
So your friend might have to acknowledge that right now, Swift could be viewed as the teams biggest fan, along with other girlfriends and spouses of team members. Our, he can just be salty that he doesn't get that recognition. His preferred media probably encouraged him to feel like he is being insulted in some way. Shared grievance and victimhood are some of the threads that hold the cult together.

Much of my post was tongue in cheek and I understand the click bait of "Fox is loosing their minds". Still they have given her plenty of attention on Fox and elsewhere. Ben Shapiro made a video about her.
"KC's biggest fan" is something I read somewhere about her possibly being invited. Again, tongue in cheek. You and your friend can relax. Obviously she's there just supporting her boyfriend and there are bigger fans. Still it's been documented that the Super Bowl enjoyed the highest ratings of any other Super Bowl and is up there with the lunar landing. Also it's documented KC's ratings went up when she was in attendance throughout the season. Probably a coincidence.
Her endorsement of Biden really isn't going to mean anything in the long run. This I know.
Finally, I totally agree that calling out a jet setting billionaire for their carbon imprint is a valid point.
Quoterecent article from Fox News dinging Swift for flying on her personal plane from New Jersey to Maryland on Sunday to watch Kelce (and the Chiefs) play in the AFC championship game against the Baltimore Ravens. According to a Reddit account that tracks Swift's jet and was cited in the Fox News article, that trip "cost $1,328 for the fuel and produced three tons of CO2 emissions.”
Every so often, Fox News comes dangerously close to making a solid point before swerving at the last second to avoid it. Here, it rightly calls out celebrities disproportionately adding to carbon dioxide emissions by flying ridiculously short distances on private planes. Fox News doesn't, however, explain why carbon dioxide emissions are bad. The issue, as the network sees it, is that Swift is the one who produced them.
Looks like the former guy is looking to get his mitts on what's left of the RNC's funds. He is promoting his DiL Lara Trump to be co-chair of the RNC, and one of his campaign advisers to be CEO of the RNC.
From the NYTimes:
QuoteFormer President Donald J. Trump on Monday night made public what he has been discussing privately for days: He has settled on someone to replace Ronna McDaniel as the chair of the Republican National Committee, and wants his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, to be the co-chair.
"The RNC MUST be a good partner in the presidential election,” Mr. Trump wrote in his statement. "It must do the work we expect from the national Party and do it flawlessly. That means helping to ensure fair and transparent elections across the country" and getting out the vote, he said.
He said he wanted his "friend" Michael Whatley, currently the chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party and the national committee's general counsel, and "my very talented daughter-in-law, Lara Trump,” to serve as party leaders.
"Lara is an extremely talented communicator and is dedicated to all that MAGA stands for,” Mr. Trump said of his daughter-in-law, who is married to his middle son, Eric. "She has told me she wants to accept this challenge and would be GREAT!”
The statement came hours after The New York Times reported that Mr. Trump had told people he was considering endorsing Ms. Trump. The Times had previously reported that Mr. Trump wanted Mr. Whatley — a supporter of his false claims about widespread voter fraud — as the next R.N.C. chair.
Both the chair and co-chair are paid positions.
Mr. Trump cannot simply appoint them. An election must be called to replace Ms. McDaniel when she ultimately decides to step down. And despite Mr. Trump's heavy influence over the party, his endorsement of Mr. Whatley in 2023 as co-chair was not enough to pull him across the finish line to win.
Ms. Trump had considered running for the U.S. Senate in North Carolina, which is her and Mr. Whatley's home state, in 2021 ahead of the primary the following year. But she ultimately opted against running.
Mr. Trump added in his statement that one of his current top campaign advisers, Chris LaCivita, would move over to become "in effect" the chief operating officer of the R.N.C. — solidifying total Trump control over the party apparatus.
"Every penny will be used properly,” Mr. Trump concluded his statement, referring to widespread concerns among Republicans about the R.N.C.’s strained finances. "New Day.”
Ms. McDaniel, who has served as the head of the party's official body for several years, has told Mr. Trump that she plans to step down shortly after the South Carolina primary on Feb. 24, according to two people briefed on the matter. Mr. Trump has publicly described Ms. McDaniel as a "friend,” but she has been the focus of intense pressure from both inside and outside the Trump campaign.
Mr. Trump's team plans to meld the R.N.C. with his campaign as much as possible. That would be a change from 2016, when he was the insurgent nominee whose team was often at odds with the party's stalwarts, and from 2020, when he was the incumbent president with a team that allocated core functions to the party committee. This time, Mr. Trump's team is aiming for as little daylight between the two entities as possible, according to several people briefed on the matter.
And they're hoping to commence the partnership with the R.N.C. well before the Republican National Convention in mid-July — cementing Mr. Trump's status as he stares down at least one potential criminal trial before then and four criminal trials overall.
Mr. Trump and his advisers have been heavily focused on what resources will be available to him as a nominee, as he faces enormous legal bills. Those bills have so far been paid for by a political action committee he controls, Save America.
I'm waiting for a post to be approved, but while I do. The article of course is click bait because Republicans aren't "melting down", but they are on the attack and defense.

The Trump cult is rather famous for believing all manner of crazy conspiracies while simultaneously not being capable of connecting relatively obvious clues that Trump is ethically and morally corrupt with disqualifying character flaws.
Beerman said:There's a border security bill that the House passed a year ago. The Dem leader of the Senate hasn't taken up any action on the issue. And, of course we know about all of Biden's undoing of Trump's border policies. It seems the Democrats are the ones who wanted chaos.
Yep. The right wing extremists in the House passed a deeply partisan border security bill that has no chance of getting enough republican votes to get traction in the Senate. It's almost like House Republicans believe that they don't have to negotiate or compromise on legislation and that they should just get what they want because they have a slim majority.

Projection of Trump's chaos onto liberals just isn't going to work here.
