I traditionally have a thread heading to the election, here we go.
Get out the popcorn for this one.
QuoteFlorida Gov. Ron DeSantis is expected to formally announce next week he is running for president in 2024, NBC News reported Thursday, citing two sources familiar with the matter.
The governor's official entry into the Republican primary field will put him head-to-head with former President Donald Trump, the party's current frontrunner for the nomination. Trump has already spent months treating DeSantis as his primary campaign rival, thrashing him with torrents of criticism over his gubernatorial record, his political skills and his personality.

He needs to go back to MaraLago and play kissy face with Loomer.
I agree. Kennedy is his own category of unusual. He can switch that southern drawl on and off like blender setting. It is important to take notice of these refusals to follow Trump's whim as his terrible judgement becomes more obvious to the public.
Trump already used congressional Republicans to blow up a consequential border bill, and I don't think that's campaigning well for them. They probably don't want to add the consequences of a shutdown or messing with the fed in a desperate attempt to save Trump from himself.

Meanwhile, looks like the Smartmatic case will start next month. Good times.

So not surprising that 1/2 population of Pittsburgh and Philadelphia watched the debate as national politic pundits say PA voters will determine Presidential election voting.
Do you know when we'll be receiving our PA mail-in ballots?

If one has signed up for PA state electronic communication ( did so when I filed PA taxes online this year), should have received an email 9/11/24 from PATH: Are You Ready to Vote This November?

Dear Pennsylvanian,
Pennsylvania's election is Nov. 5, 2024!
If you are eligible, now is the time to register to vote or check your registration status to make sure your information is current.
You must register or update your information by Monday, Oct. 21 to be eligible to vote in this election.
If you are already registered and want to vote by mail, be sure to apply for your mail ballot by Oct. 29.
For the most up-to-date Pennsylvania voting information, visit vote.pa.gov or follow the Department of State on Facebook and X.
PA counties must start processing mail ballot applications. + mailing ballots out on Sept. 16, 2024, pending any legal challenges.
How Do I know if my ballot was accepted and counted?
QuoteYou can track the status of your ballot online. If you provide your email address to your county election office at the time you register to vote or apply for a mail ballot, you may receive an email notification when your returned ballot is received, as well as information about your ballot status, depending on county practices. You can call your county elections office for more information.

QuoteState and local election officials from across the country on Wednesday warned that problems with the nation's mail delivery system threaten to disenfranchise voters in the upcoming presidential election, telling the head of the U.S. Postal Service that it hasn't fixed persistent deficiencies.
QuoteThe letter to U.S. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy came from two groups that represent top election administrators in all 50 states. They told DeJoy, "We have not seen improvement or concerted efforts to remediate our concerns."
"We implore you to take immediate and tangible corrective action to address the ongoing performance issues with USPS election mail service," they added. "Failure to do so will risk limiting voter participation and trust in the election process."
QuoteThe letter comes less than two weeks after DeJoy said in an interview that the Postal Service was ready to handle a flood of mail ballots expected as part of this November's presidential election and as former President Donald Trump continues to sow doubts about U.S. elections by falsely claiming he won in 2020.
It all sounds vaguely familiar.

Yes, and why am I not surprised?

My vote means more in PA than CO this cycle. I was in neighboring NJ for a few months this Spring.
Im not going into details, but after a few minutes of creative thought I made a quick stop in PA.
I'm seeing the advantage of mail-in voting.

I'd have to look it up, but I seem to remember something to do with legal issues. He's not subject to the same constraints as other appointed officials. BRB ...
OK ... In 1971 the postal service was re-organized like a private corporation with a board of governors, who have the exclusive right to hire and fire the postmaster general. It is not a cabinet position and receives no public funding. The board of governors, on the other hand, are Senate-approved appointees who serve for seven years. Firing DeJoy requires the cooperation of a majority of the board members, just like a private corporation.
Opinions differ on what motivated the change..
