The election 2024 Thread

Published

I traditionally have a thread heading to the election, here we go.

Get out the popcorn for this one.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is expected to formally announce next week he is running for president in 2024, NBC News reported Thursday, citing two sources familiar with the matter.

The governor's official entry into the Republican primary field will put him head-to-head with former President Donald Trump, the party's current frontrunner for the nomination. Trump has already spent months treating DeSantis as his primary campaign rival, thrashing him with torrents of criticism over his gubernatorial record, his political skills and his personality.

My vote means more in PA than CO this cycle.  I was in neighboring NJ for a few months this Spring.

Im not going into details,  but after a few minutes of creative thought I made a quick stop in PA.

I'm seeing the advantage of mail-in voting.

Are you abandoning your down ballot Colorado votes too?

Isn't voting in two different states in the same election is voter fraud? Maybe it's different when the election involves both state and national candidates. If he owns residences in both states, he'll have to pick one, I suspect.

There was a situation a few years ago where a man owned a residence in 2 different states. One was in the state he actually lived in, complete with family. The other was a trailer in another state where he spent basically no time, which he used to register to vote. I wonder what became of that case.

I suspect that he's pulling our collective leg.  It's nice that it's so easy to register to vote, though.

Voter fraud is rare and  inconsequential in deciding elections.  So, no harm being done.

I plan on voting only in PA, although I feel like there is a decent chance I could get away with voting in both.

I don't own property in PA.  I've never even lived in PA.

Oh, I see what you did there. Good one. I forgot all about that. The state declined to press charges saying there was insufficient evidence.

Voter fraud by thee, but not by me.

Indeed.

I just heard about Florida's election police. Apparently their mission is to keep elections honest. It seems they are currently going to the homes of citizens who signed a petition to put a reproductive rights amendment on the state ballot. The rationale is the investigation of the authenticity of the signatures. Would love to know what else they're up to. Maybe I'll look it up.

Let us know how that goes for you.  I'll be interested.  Will you provide screen shots of your PA ballot or will we have to go on trust?

No.  I'm not accustomed to having to prove myself in that manner and not inclined to start now.

JD Vance was asked about the lies about Haitians living in Ohio on multiple programs this morning.

Quote

"If I have to create stories so that the American media actually pays attention to the suffering of the American people, then that's what I'm going to do,” said the senator.

I wonder why the senator needs to tell lies to get the media to talk about things that are made up?  Is he trying to manipulate people with emotional baloney so that they will make him more powerful?

The apparent confession prompted host Dana Bash to point out: "You just said that this is a story that you created.”

The exchange grew fiery with Vance hitting out at Bash for what he claimed to be a "frankly disgusting" question when she pointed out there was "zero evidence" for his claims – and that the tales had triggered bomb threats in Springfield.

JD lashed, like Trump might, when confronted with the dishonesty.

Quote

"Instead of saying things that are wrong and actually causing the hospitals, the schools, the government buildings to be evacuated because of bomb threats, because of the cats and dogs thing, why not actually be constructive in helping to better integrate them into the community?” she asked.

Vance maintains that its all just a weird coincidence that the threats and violence targeting Springfield and Haitians came on the heels of their crazy claims.

Now the Proud Boys are showing up in Springfield to support Trump and Vance and their racist rhetoric.  Vance said he doesn't align with the far right, neo fascist group, but the Proud Boys sure do align with him.

This is what authoritarians do.  Who is going to stop them?
