I just wanted to take the time to thank Brian and all of you for the wonderful interactions and learning experiences I get each time I post here. Learning up to date information has lead me to be an even better nurse because of this site. Keep up the good work!:yeah::redpinkhe:nurse:

I agree, it's great to have a place for nurses to come together and share perspectives and ideas!

you know, today i lurked at another nsg website.

specifically, their nsg forums.

i've decided that moderation and yes, even censorship, has its benefits.

there are many who do not practice common courtesy 101:

and moreover, have mastered the art of all that is indecent.

after reading 1 too many posts filled with venomous, haughty contempt, i was only too glad to return here...

KNOWING that civility is the standard and expectation here on AN's.

for that and that alone, i am grateful...so very grateful.

for those who think this bb may be overmoderated?

maybe, maybe not.

but if AN's is reputed to be micromanaged, that's ok with me.

the last time i checked, these 'expectations' and TOS were synonymous with standards.

high standards, mind you.

i can't ever imagine being part of a community where mudslinging is acceptable and even a norm.

all those toxins belong elsewhere...and certainly not here.

so thank you, thank you and thank you, AN's...

just for being who you are.:redpinkhe

I concur ! This site is great even if I get schooled, I at least feel I am schooled by intelligent educated people. :smokin: I have learned a lot here and have found resources to improve my nursing practice.

THANKS ALLNURSES!

Sorry for being so late to this wonderful thread ;)

You are all so very welcome! AN is a wonderful example of niche collaborative thinking. Thousands of intelligent nurses discussing nursing! Thank you all for being part of AN! It truely is all of you members who make AN what it is ;)

I joined this site 6 years ago when I was a LPN, and like Tweety, it was this site that gave me the gumption and drive to later get my RN, then my BSN. I will start grad school in August. I never would have been able to get my ASN (distance ed) if it hadn't been for Allnurses. It has shaped me as a nurse, and as an adult.

I remember one of my first posts, where I got schooled on union strikes. I naively asked why was it so bad to cross the picket line, because the patients needed to be taken care of. I truly didn't understand the concept. Well, a couple striking nurses took offense, and thought I was a troll .

It was actually Karen who saved my butt, and explained everything in a nonjudgmental way, while asking everyone to play nice. I've been learning from her and everyone else here ever since. Had she not been there to moderate, I probably would've left the site and not come back. Karen most likely doesn't know this, but she left such a great impression on me by doing that. ;)

And, as for moderation: ....................

ALL things, in moderation, makes for a HEALTHY body, does it not???? :wink2:

The reason this site IS SO Healthy, is due to the excellent moderation! :nurse:

I stumbled on AN seven years ago this week when I was browsing the Web for nursing education sites. I took a look around, decided that I'd found what I was looking for and never looked back.I'm one of those people who just HAS to know as much as I can about almost everything there is to know about almost everything in the world. I think I must have been a teacher in a past life because I can't stop myself from explaining things to others. Gets me in trouble sometimes. And of course, I have an opinion about everything and don't hesitate to share it with anyone who will listen. THAT gets me in trouble ALL the time. Along with my Irish temper... But I've never found a more accepting, fair, intelligent and generous bunch of people anywhere else. AN is home for me.

I was invited to join the staff in early August 2006, and what an opportunity that turned out to be. I learn something new here every day and like to think I share something useful every day too. I've made some great friends and been supported through some trying times. I plan to be here a long time so that I can pay all that forward.

:an!: rocks, and ALL NURSES ROCK!
