Nurses Humor

Published

If you caught The View yesterday, you saw Joy Behar ask of Miss Colorado (Miss America contestant) and nurse, "Why does she have a doctor's stethoscope around her neck?"

Our friends at Gomer Blog couldn't resist.

I thought what the other cackling hen said was far more offensive than the one that said the thing about the stethoscopes. I don't know their names, just a bunch of talking asses because thats where their heads are most the time.

My wonderful stethoscope

Unbelievable!!!! For someone who worked hard to be accepted as a female comedian, she of all people should know that doing things that go against the grain, is hard. She should have been applauding her!!!!!!!!!!!!

When beauty pageants are striving to come into the 21st century and be recognized as scholarship opportunities, and not just a pretty face, Ms Colorado stood up and gave a great monologue on the heart of nursing.

Ugh, it has been fun watching the Twitterfeed and FB pages blow up, wish I was home to turn it on to see fio they will address the issue.

Ah, yes, The View. Proving once again that women can also be knuckle-dragging troglodytes.

What makes me absolutely sick is are these people so far removed from actual life that they have no idea what a nurse does? I don't expect them to know a nurse's scope of practice, but do they think a nurse just follows a doctor around taking orders all day? Or do they think a nurse just wipes butts? Seriously, that is what I don't understand in all of this. With their comments, they were trying to set women back a hundred years.

Miss CO was trying to educate the public about nursing. That is the ironic thing here, if they would have listened to her instead of being the uneducated twits they are, they might have learned something. That girl took a big risk at the Miss America Pageant. She went against the grain of wearing some revealing gown and doing something that is not talented at all. Now, some of those women can sing and dance, but they don't need to do it while their breasts are hanging out. She came out in her scrubs hoping to actually get someone's attention, to listen to what she had to say without them staring at her chest the entire time. Instead, these women mock her and start gossiping about her and did not pay one bit of attention to what she was saying. That infuriates me!!! Women like this are part of the reason why the general public are so uneducated about medicine period. Don't even get me started on Jenny McCarthy.

With America having such an obsession with celebrities these days, it's up to the people in their position to be educated about what they are talking about and not just spewing a bunch of crap that is in no way true. If you don't want people to look up to you, don't be a celebrity period. It really irks me when I hear celebrities or athletes say I'm not responsible for being a role model. Yes, you are. People look up to you and if you don't want the job, there are plenty of other people that will do it. It's all part of the package. You just can't take all the prestige and money and not be a responsible person or expect to have your privacy. If you want the normal life and your privacy and not have to answer to the public, give back your money, your fancy house, 20 cars, staff of people, and live your normal life. Don't be a pro athlete, a famous musician, or on TV. It's give and take and it's honestly like that in every, single aspect of life. It's like that at work, in a marriage, in any kind of relationship in your life.

I applaud Miss CO and what she did. She took a huge risk and even though it didn't pay off in the end, I'm hoping that maybe in future years other women don't feel that they have to show off their body and get all made up to win money to go to college. Men don't have to do that, why should women? I'm not some big feminist or anything, but I do feel that women are viewed as less than men in general in society. I was pulled over about a month and a half ago by a state trooper who did nothing but scream at me and tell me about "women drivers". It was really the first time in my life I had ever felt discriminated against as a women. I'm sure it's happened before, but the way I was treated that day was terrible and it was because I was a woman. He told me that. Then, he wrote me a warning because as he put it, he wasn't letting a personal bias get in the way of writing me a ticket. I would rather of had him write me a ticket and treat me with respect than the way I was treated that day. It all started with me trying to find a safe place to pull over for the both of us and he went crazy on me.

That incident really changed my thought process on a few things. I've always been for women having equal rights but have never been very vocal about it until that happened to me. Now, I'm very vocal.

I would have far preferred to listen to this young woman's monologue than watch another baton twirling act (no offense to the baton twirlers in the country).

It's a shame that intelligence and professional achievement still takes a back seat to physical beauty in a "scholarship" pageant.

Fellow nurses.....please check with your BON because IT MAY NOT BE IN YOUR SCOPE OF PRACTICE to use a stethoscope

I was baffled at the number of people on social media who believe that reciting a monologue isnt a talent! They clearly have never been on a stage before.

And by a woman that performs stand up comedy! A comedy routine can be just as challenging as a dramatic monologue... both are trying to elicit an emotional audience response.
