I was wondering what the GPA of the average student applying to an accelerated program is. Mine is 3.6. Is this good? Do you think I am in a good position for being accepted? Do you guys thinks being a male helps in getting accepted? I was just wondering as there are so few male nurses out there. Just looking to see what my chances are. By the way, I am applying to NYU's accelerated program, so if there are any guys out there who are doing the same or have gone through their program I would really like to hear from you...
Thanks everyone!:nuke:
Normally, book smart gets you into a school... critical thinking skills are what helps you make it in the world. You can weigh each one however you want...
What school needs atleast 3.5 for them to look at you? Might as well take a few more classes and apply for medical school! My program only needed a 2.75... and it's a very well known school in the heart of a very medical oriented town.

My GPA is currently 3.6. I had a little trouble with Pharm and with a couple other B's which brought me down from 3.8 , but as long as I do well on the upcoming final in my first semester of nursing school I will be back up there again.
Ive heard rumors that being male affects entry in a positive way, but I strongly doubt this. Its discrimination and against the law.
Good luck in all that you do!

I don't see why being male would have anything to do with acceptance to nursing school.

Why not, they give extra points for coming from a illeagal alien background, if you speak certain langauges, no one in you family has a BA or BS, or a poor school district..... Thats not discrimination?

I'm not sure if being a male will help your changes. Maybe in a progressive state like NYC, but here in Texas, it doesn't work for you (nor against you, of course). My understanding is that acceptance into nursing school can vary from place to place. For example, if your school accepts based solely on GPA + prereqs completed, and you had 20 students with a 4.0 apply with only 10 slots, you can be sure it's tough since those with the 4.0 will automatically be considered!
Anyway, I had a 3.3 when I applied to my nursing program and currently have a 3.75. :)

In undergrad, I had a GPA of 3.87 and now that I have one more class left in the Master's Program, I have 3.92. I think your GPA is very good. Don't dwell on the GPA thing too much because that will not determine what kind of nurse you will be when you get on the floor. Book smarts is not everything.
