Are you serious? These are the moments that I get the strong urge to smack someone upside the head!

That would likely help dislodge that darn q-tip fluff. Sounds like a care plan to me.

Gunners Mate now RN? nice switch. at least your q tip patient came in before his sever otittis requiring admission racked up 20k dollars and passed that on to tax payers. lot of dumb people out there, it's crazy crazy. let's move on to a more interesting subject like coffee quality and additives.

Creative guess. Had someone recently ask me if GM was for general manager of a sports team. I actually used to work for general motors.

According to EMTALA, he is entitled to a medical screening to determine whetner he has an emergency. The hospital decided that he does, in fact, have an emergency. The message he got was, "It's a good thing you called 911 for this emergency. Please do it often".

We, as a system, have re-enforced his behavior. He may have had a supid complaint. We chose to validate it. Who is really stupid here?

And then there is the patient who boarded an international flight to receive medical treatment in the U.S.; his chief complaint--vibrating fecal impaction.

Two questions on this one,

1. How did the patient board an international flight with a vibrating behind, didn't anyone at airport screening notice or hear any thing out of the ordinary?

2. Did the patient come in for removal, or just a battery change?

Elevated leg in isolation and on strong pain meds and he doesn't have a foley? Why's that? (curious as a new student)

I understand the lack of a foley -- the nosocomial infection thing is a big no-no anymore.

But what I don't understand is why no Texas/condom catheter?

gravity would still apply....

Specializes in ER/Trauma.

But what I really want to know is: What's the nursing diagnosis on this one?

:D

gravity would still apply....

What to do about the leaking? Seems like that would make a lot of extra work for the nurses and not be good for the patient's dignity?

Now wait a minute. It doesn't matter what you think, for him it was a true emergency and as a nurse you should have some compassion. We all know how scary unfamiliar situations can be and he probably didn't know what else to do. Geesh, I'm ashamed to be a part of such a group of heartless people. And how was he supposed to get home? If it was me I would have taken him home in my personal vehicle after making sure he had a healthy meal and all of his other needs were met too. Isn't that what we became nurses for? Shame on all of you!:nono:

Gotcha!. Just wanted to beat out the pre-pre nursing student, pre-nursing students, nursing students, new grads, bleeding hearts and the general public who are so often horrified by this forum:devil:

Damn! You got me good! Although in my defense, I just got home from a 13 hr shift...Good one!
