what do the students call you?

I just started orientation as a sub nurse, and the other nurses go by Miss or Mrs ::last name::.

I'm pretty young (early 20's) and my last name can be kind of hard to pronounce. I was thinking of just telling the students to just call me by my first name or Miss ::first name:: if they want to/have to use a formal title.

I'm not really big on formalities, the way I see it is that we're all people here. No need to call me Mrs or Miss. However I do realize this may not go over well in a structured school environment.

what do your students call you? Should I just go with what everyone else goes by? I feel like it would be strange having high schoolers call me miss :last name:: when I'm not that much older than them..

I would have preferred "Miss First Name" because, like other posters have lamented, my last name is difficult to say and even harder to spell. My predecessor, however, went by her last name and admin thought it would be unprofessional to have the kids call me Miss Tomato instead of Miss Crab. Oh well.

My boyfriend's last name is even more difficult than mine so I pity the fool who has to formally address me if we get married.

Mr. Last name. My first name is the same as the principal, therefore I also answer the phone formally. Our school is just as focused on manners as education, no one uses first names when a child is present. That was the hardest part of becoming staff here and not just a parent. Staff call me RN or Double T (the difference between my first name and the principal's).

I'm Mrs. Last Name but since I have 3 nieces in my building who call me Aunt First Name some kids have said they think it's only fair if they can too. I told them I could live with that!

"Nurse"

"Nurse first name"

or just first name. It just depends on who it is. It's all fine with me :)

Ms. or Nurse Last name.

My last name is a humorous body part and sometimes the kids (and adults) are uncomfortable saying it. I tell them they can call me Ms Initial. I think it is especially hard for some of the staff since I changed my name back to my maiden name a few years after divorcing and it is hard for them to believe that I chose to have (what some consider to be) an awkward last name.

Fun fact: I had a relative on the titanic (Major Archibald Butt). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archibald_Butt

There's a bridge dedicated to him in Georgia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butt_Memorial_Bridge

I'd love to see it someday!
