Sticker shock before I even get started!

I was wondering, what kind of medical tests and or shots did you have to have before starting your nursing program?

We had to have a drug test, prove all our shots were up to date, have a rubella tither, PPD (or chest xray) and have or start our Hep B shots.

I cant believe how much all of this costs. Insurance considers most of this stuff voluntary and would not pay for any of it. the doctors visit, drug test and rubella tither was $328 and the xray was $175. Thank goodness i already had my heb b series.

So, i was wondering what other schools require.

Not sure on the exact list of shots yet, but I know there are a lot...and my school offers them at a cheaper price if your insurance doesn't cover them. Not sure if they do a drug test or not.

I consider myself very lucky then....the hospital paid for it all...:)

We needed to have or started HEP B ( we could also sign a waiver), a PPD, Positive titres for Varicella, Rubella, Rubeola, and a physical. Also a Tetorifice within 10 years. Im not sure if my insurance will cover or not, I havent got the bills yet!!

I just went to the local health dept for all my immunizations - $10 apiece. I also used the health dept for my and my daughter's immunizations when I went to Vietnam this summer. Just had my 6 year old's immunizations done there too.

I had sticker shock when I had my son 6 years ago - I had his shots done at the doc, thinking that since the insurance paid for his delivery, HE was insured. Um - no. It was over $300 for something that cost about $25 at the health dept.

As to an xray - we did not have to have that prior to school. Did you ever have a positive reaction to a TB shot? If not, just the PPD should be done and that too can be done at the health dept.

drug test, hepatitis A&B, measles, mumps, rubella, tetorifice, PPD..i think that's it. I went to the health department and paid $45 for the twin Hep A & B for each. There are 3 you have to get over 6 months.

I went to the health department...if you are going to nursing school, they did about 98% of what I needed for free.

Checkup, copy of immunization record or titer results, Hep B, TB test, and a drug test. I have no insurance, so this is gonna hurt...

yup, same here, health dept or student health center at the University. Hep B, Tb skin and/or chest film, MMR booster, and tetorifice.

Did you know ahead of time that your insurance wouldn't cover the tests? There should be clinics near you that do physicals for employment/school that charge around $100 for all the tests and the physical. In my neck of the woods you can get it done for around $85. I havn't called my insurance to see if I have coverage for something like this or not.

I paid my $25 copay for my physical, $10 lab copay for my titers and nothing for my immunizations.

I knew I'm paying $343 a month for medical insurance for something! ;)

As some of the posters above, I just went to my school clinic. Everything I had done was free. The TB, MMR (yeah, I got stuck with the worst one cuz I apparently didn't get the last one done!) and Tetorifice. My doctor did my chest scan when I came back with a +PPD. Luckily it was all negative! That was my $20 copay. Drug test and background check was $35. I already had Hep B series from my last job. All total if I hadn't had a +PPD would have been $35. I would definitely check out the clinic or health department.
