** Any Class of '09ers out there?? Post here!!!
Name: Sherry School: Dabney S Lancaster C C Program: ADN What area of interest at this time: I worked at a few nursing homes as a CNA, from that experience I think I would like to work Hospice. But I am sure that could change as I go thru the program. Biggest fear: Long term: Failing, an 80 is failing in our program. Short term: Passing the drug dosage test the first week of school. You are given a few tries, but u have to pass it to stay in the program! What you'd like us to know about you: Married 16 years, have 2 kids (boy 17, girl 15), have 5 stepkids that are all married and gone. I currently work with the local community service board/mental retardation service, doing inhome care for a young autistic boy.(he is awesome!!!) Looking forward to getting to know all of you!

Passed my TEAS
I had my appt today with the head of the nursing program, I went in fully expecting to be told, that i would find out in a few weeks. (There are a total of 40 seats for the Nursing program, and I had been told this morning that there were only 8 spots left, so i really wasnt expecting much.) BUT, i sat down and she said well i have everything i need from you, lets get u started. I just sat there with my mouth hanging open. She handed me the student nurses guidebook, and said there are a few things i have to go over with u, and oh yeah there is a special orientation on the friday before classes start. I am sure i made a great first impression, sitting there catching flies and all........ but I AM IN !!!!! I had to calmly go to micro class after this, but on the way home coming down the interstate, i let out a big 'ol WHOOOOHOOOOOOO!!!! lol Sherry

UnPatiently Waiting on Fall 07 decisions
I too am waiting. I just got the results for my TEAS & critical thinking test back. I have an appt with the program head today, then the waiting will begin. My school will sometimes wait right up until the week before classes start to let u know anything. Only been a few days and i am already sitting here sick to my stomach. Maybe, hope against hope, she will be able to give me a clue today! Good luck everyone who is waiting!

Passed my TEAS
I am so excited, been lurking here for a while.....lol... but thought i would share my good news. I was more worried about the critical thinking test that was given with the TEAS. But, i passed them all. At my school u have to have a 49 or above on each section. So now i am keeping my fingers crossed. I will call in the morning and make my appt with the nursing dept head. OH I HOPE I HOPE I HOPE...........

Poo everywhere!
Ok...... sitting here laughing, especially the cookie story, so i thought i would share mine. we had a alzheimer patient that was bad about undiapering himself, and smearing poo. Well one day we go into his room, and he is sitting in his bed with his very full diaper on his lap. He has BOTH hands full of poo. He is just shoving it in his mouth, and happily chewing away. (After the initial shock and disgust wore off) I told him not to do that, and removed the diaper. He smiled and offered me some. I asked what he was doing, he says "diggin taters". He then proceeds to tell me that he got a lil dirty working in the garden, but the taters were mighty good this year............. I had an awful time convincing him not to eat anymore "taters", and to let me help him get cleaned up.

Calling All CNA's!
Hello all, I have been a CNA for almost a year, and am hoping to be accepted into the RN program this fall. I DO love my job, and all my people I help care for. I work in a LTC facility in Va. Look forward to getting to know everyone here.

Newbie - please answer
I had no math except the intake and output in my CNA training. I very rarely have to use math as a CNA, so no on the job experience. I had to take Algebra as a pre-req for the RN program i am hoping to get into.

The smell...
I am a full time CNA and nursing school hopeful...... I was so bad about smells and sounds of gagging, that i would throw up everytime my kids would, i wouldnt even have to see it, just hear it or smell it. My first month or so of CNA work about killed me, but now i just try not to think about what i am doing when i have to clean someone or something up. All the tricks mentioned here really do work. I new i was gonna be ok the day i was cleaning someone up after they had vomited, and was telling another CNA, well no wonder they vomited, they didnt chew anything they ate. (And was actually naming off the chunks. ) So with time and a few tricks, you will be fine!
