So I'm fired. Again.

Nurses General Nursing

I must be the worst nurse in the world.

Now I need to figure out my next step. And it isn't nursing.

No specific reason. They think I "could" be unsafe.

Pffft.

Thanks. Well, I'm already more than halfway through the RN courses but I've been so fried that I haven't been studying. I'm knocking thse suckers out fast. Just three left, than the clinical.

Lots of hugs!!! Just remember that this is not a reflection on how you are as a nurse, it's a reflection on how nasty your preceptors were. I think they couldn't handle the upbeat, confident nurse that you are. Personally from reading your posts, I think you brought a breath of fresh air to that unit and they couldn't handle it. Those precepters are the kind of stifling, negative people you wouldn't want to work with anyway. You are on to better and brighter things!

I cannot tell you how sorry I am that you are going through this. I really enjoy reading your posts and value your opinion. I am thrilled to hear you are going to pursue your RN. You are right, it will offer you more opportunites. I am sure all of us have been in positions where we were not meant to be. Some of us just quit before we were fired. Many nurses I know spent several years going through different jobs and training to find their niche. I have no doubt you will find yours. Please remember there are people "out here" who care about you.

I know it sounds sappy and such but I'll risk it because I believe it is true: when one door closes another one opens.

I'm facing a career crisis myself. I understand how stressful it can be to try to make plans and figure out how you will earn a living in the meantime. I've been a totally ill-humored grouchy b*%^& the past four months from all the stress of trying to figure out what to do.

I feel for you. Times are hard lately and seems like no one out there is giving breaks. I spend a lot of evenings after the kids go to bed sitting out back drinking cheap beer and staring into space.

I know talk is cheap but if anything I could say could reach you now I'd tell you not to worry. Surely with all the disciplines of nursing we will find somewhere we belong sooner or later.

Take care of yourself.

I know how painful it is to be fired. I had it happen to me as well and it was ultimately a gift that it happened. You have already bounced back! I am truly impressed by your tenacity and commitment. I also have read your thoughtful posts and know you are meant for bigger and better things.

Sue,

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I do admire how quickly you've planned what you are doing with Excelsior. Good for you. Like others have said, you will find your niche. I bet someday you will look back on this experience and say, "thank goodness that happened at that horrid med/surg job because otherwise I wouldn't be doing ----."

In the meantime, I'm still sorry because I know it feels really, really bad.

Sending HUGE HUGS to you {{{{{{{{{{{{{sue}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} Finish the RN degree and you'll be qualified for much better jobs than the bad ones you've had. You'll leave the evil witches behind in the dust. I've been where you are, in another place, another city, right out of nursing school, and I didn't know I had that many tears in me. Lateral violence is alive and well in nursing and I was played every which way when I got my first jobs out of school in the midwest. I found kind, normal, supportive, intelligent coworkers once I moved to a different part of the country and had a very different work experience. Hang in there!!!! It will get better when you get to a place around people who value you and your gifts.

(((Sue)))) So sorry this happened to you.

They were wrong to do what they did. But when you think about it, who'd want to work for a place like that?

So I say, don't waste your tears on them.

Your plan looks good. You'll rise above this and be better for it.

I like your plan, Sue. Like Tammy Faye said "If life hands you lemons, make lemonade".
