  1. It seems like every patient that comes to the ER is tested these days. The funny thing, if there is a + flu they have no clue in house which mask to wear, each ADON gives a different answer.
  2. Our Nurses made out good this year and last year and the years before. Seems they have the money for them at the hospital and not the Nurse Aides. They got shirts, breakfast wed, plus fingerfoods everyday last week. The Day shift WAS treated better then the night shift. Plus a card. The aides last year got a gait belt and a candybar "whoopie". I do not know about the aides who work with most of you but the aides who work where I am bust their A$$ every day. They get no thanks. Plus they do not even get their own week like everyone else, they are now lumped in hospital week. But Lab gets their own week, maintance, housekeeping ect does also, but the aides get stuck every time. So happy Nurses day, now you know sadly how the"less important" feel untill they are needed, and then it is non stop, "I need you too.......", if you do not like the book as 1 person said, please donate to a Nursing Student, it might make their day, and and it might mean more coming from from one RN to a future another. (free or not) just my 2 cents.
  3. GOOD SHOES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. I have to agree with alot you have to say as a Paramedic PCT, But I also get a large report sheet so I can write down all information I have the RN gives me and important information. It is handy and if there are questions then the RN has the info right there. We give Verbal, and most of us give detailed reports. If the RN feels there is more to add they do, plus we follow up with them after they get report.
  5. When I started out as a Nurse Aide years ago, Men were the only ones to perfom "male" catheters and so on, unless we did not have one. Same way with beds and females were to take care of females. Man have times changed for the BETTER!
  6. EEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWW nuff said:uhoh3:
  7. We had issues with a few folks, and ours was taken away. I was always too busy to play with it, but others not only did for pt care but ebay, hotels and other things. UGH, a few folks ruined it for everyone.
  8. Ummmmmmmmmm no we don't have a huge budget, they made cuts in other places(Staffing and so on) to make sure these things are/were given out. Plus of course the CEO and board did not take a cut. Yes, worked in retail where"The customer" is always right is a total different CONCEPT then in a hospital. Now we award bad behavior or families, pt and their friends. Pts and those folks know it too and it is a damn shame, then the staff is held responsible as"you could have apeased them more" For what doing my job? This whole thing is a sad development of what we have become as a industry in whole:down:.
  9. First off I have soooooooooo have to laugh at this. Our facility/hosp tried this too. But they were to WALMART! They ranged from $25.00-$50.00 EACH. Well families did JUST what you said they did, since this is a small hosp for 4 counties all these folks realized this is a way to get free stuff. They would complain on every floor and dept( x ray and so on) then when their friends were admitted or patients they did the SAME DAMN thing. Each one bowing down and giving a card to APEASE the upset family/pt so they would come back to our hosp for yet another procedure( I mean WTH else would they go? The bigger hosp were "too far away" many said. This was REALLY bad around Christmas too. Management smiled and handed out more cards. The employees got zip for a bonus but some of these folks walked out with a couple hundred in gift cards and it made us sick and ****** when we realized that is all they had to do was whine.:flmngmd: Entire families and friends and pt who were frequent fliers got real good at this too. Finally after a while the hosp wised up, and handed out $5.00 cards to be used in house only.
  10. Where are the surpluses?
  11. AMEN to that or. I hear" I am sooooooo tired from school." all shift long and how hard they have to work and go to school. WELL D'UH! Welcome to the real world. We are all tired tooand many go to school besides "you" but we still do our jobs 100%, no matter how tired we are.
  12. Okay I have to wonder where you all work where the CNA/PCTs sit on their butt all the time, refuse to do vitals, turns , blood sugars and so on. My unit I work as a tech on is VERY busy. We(the techs) run like crazy all the time. There are only MAYBE 2 who are lazy, get along with the important folks and get their way and are just lazy and RNs make excuses for them and their reasons. If we refused to do these things write ups would ensue and potental job loss I would figure where I work waiting to finish RN school. I am in a hospital setting. I work as a tech, give 110% all the time and run all night, miss lunch for my pts come first always, rarely sit down ever, even to chart, and sometimes get to void hours after really wanting too. I want to know where the lazy aides are who get to talk on the phone(we sure are not allowed too) that way I can find a place I can sit down at once in a while to see what it is like.
  13. Not the Dept I used to work at. If it was not, Mom dad, brother or sister. THen no, and you had2 unpaid days off. If it was Grandparents, Uncles/aunts/cousins or so on no you had to find someone to work and no paid time off. I am sorry to hear for you dilema, but many people have suh large families and have seen abuse he system. Heck we saw one person at a hospital who was a PT'r, take a MONTH for a great great aunt the staff told us and their Sup did not care since the hospital was staffed. Others were upset since it was by who was friends with a certain sup, but I felt sorry for the staff as this is the only person they did that for.
  14. Ours has to have that, plus proof of license and some paperwork with the magic seal from a notery too, stating you are who you are, record check and you understand the rules and will not hold the dept accountable. I tell them if you want to ride bad enough, like anything in life, you'll get the required paperwork done. Then you can come "WATCH" all you want and if the Personal feel you are compitent enough, then do Pt care. Come on out , we love teaching new tricks.
  15. I know MOST major cities and smaller ones have "ride a long" programs. I know the Military sometimes sends RNs out with the rigs to get a idea, plus MANY hospitals are starting to do this also so RNs understand more the levels of training and howthings work in the OUTSIDE world as compared to the inside. I think it is a real good learning tool for many RNs( the thought of carrying a 350-400 lb pt down 2 flights of stairs and all the equipment to go with it), to see it is not all driving and picking someone "up" and how some LTCF are great and some just SUCK and the dread going to that place knowing what you will get and I am not talking pt I am talking about the staff that works there. Many ideas and attitudes have changed after say a 3 day ride a long, and both parties have learned from it, and many times for the better of BOTH healthcare worlds.
