did any of you share your first job offer on Facebook?

Published

I'm a new grad who has just been offered an ICU position and I could not be more excited right now! I received my official offer paperwork today and I'd really like to share with my family and friends that after years of hard work, I've been offered my first nursing position in the specialty that I love.

Did any of you do this when you were offered your first position?

Specializes in ER/SICU/House Float.

nope no internet, no facebook and all my school assignments were on a typewriter and we had to drive to the state capital and sit 2 days in testing for boards and no way in heck would a new grad get a ICU job - just sayin. ancient days so 20th century

makes me wonder all the he-haw how patients are sicker yet new grads are given a heap load right out the gate and dang only a 3 hour test to get the license

I'm thinking us oldies got the shaft (Old song she got the gold mine I got the shaft) LOL

But congrats with the new job hope its works out for you and I would just post something Yeah!! I got my Dream Job in ICU!

Cause seriously employers mine the internet for disgruntle employees. My dh works for a electrical company and he shares quite often people getting fired for social media rants and other stuff they feel does not represent their company well.

Have seen this personally, and the person was friends with their boss.

Yikes.

I personally never "like" my employer, nor do I point-blank state where I work. Even though most people I'm friends with on FB know where I work. I just don't want to be discoverable through a search.

Specializes in CEN.

I don't have facebook. My siblings have it but I adamantly refuse to open an account. Reason? Because the first thing your boss does when looking into you is an online search. I don't need anyone seeing pictures of me doing anything compromising. I generally only let immediate family members know when I get a new job and don't post any major life changes online for all to see.

I never (and never will) post anything about my employment on facebook. Actually, my facebook page does not even have where I work, and has a fake town listed. I value my privacy! Personal friends and relatives may know, but anyone not close to me doesn't need to know. Employers DO look on facebook sites, so like others have said, don't ever post anything negative about your employment, and don't spread gossip about it, either.

Share my position online? Heck, no.

What if something were to happen with "x" position?

Absolutely not. I don't discuss any part of my profession life on social media. The most I might every mention is that a work was "busy". If I never mention it then I don't need to worry about getting in trouble for it. Never believe that employers do not trawl social media looking for incriminating posts because they do. Use email and notify people in a private manner.

No, I don't share anything about work on FB.

I once had a non-nursing job offer that was rescinded a few days later because the employee who was leaving that position changed her mind. Luckily I was able to keep the job I had. That was humiliating enough without sharing it with the world.

When i got my first job i did share about it on social media. there is absolutely no reason as to why you can't post "I have just accepted an offer at X hospital, i am so excited to start my nursing career etc etc".

Specializes in mental health / psychiatic nursing.

Not a nurse yet, but when I got my first CNA job I think I posted something like "First day on the new job!" as a way to share my excitement, but still keep work and facebook separate. Friends/family either already knew the specifics or we talked about it when we met up in person if they cared to know.

When facebook was more private I put a lot more information on it, but as it has become more and more open and accessible to the public I have greatly cut back on what I share. Even with my privacy settings locked down tight and small friends list, I still don't put anything up I'd be ashamed to one day see in the newspaper.

Welcome to AN! The largest online nursing community!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! Your first position!! and in the specialty of your choice. It is so exciting! ME? HAHA!!! We finally got a ball printer back in 1983...LOL Our first computers were in DOS.....I hated DOS....Grrrrrrrrrr.

Something to learn about Facebook in the beginning. Facilities do NOT LIKE Facebook. They do NOT want their laundry, dirty or otherwise, in the public eye. Many facilities, while they initially lagged behind, have developed strict social media policies.

Here are a couple in my area.

Social Media Guidelines for Employees - Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA

followed up with their confidentiality/breech of confidentiality

It's become a big deal.

You can share how excited you are and that you got a job offer where you wanted to be. DO NOT put the hospital name on your FB page. Make your page private to friend and family only. Keep work stuff OFF the internet completely.

Don't friend your boss. Facilities now have information officers that their sole job is to search the internet.

Congrats!!! The first year is going to be overwhelming...but you got this! If you need support you know where to find us...((HUGS))

Assignments on a typewriter! Lucky you - we wrote everything. After state board exams we all had carpal tunnel syndrome :D So no, Facebook was not an option when I got my first job.

Just post that you got your dream job and you are stoked about it. That's all friends and family really need to know anyway. They can pick up the phone for more info.

This is what I was thinking about as well. You can share the particular facility with your loved ones in person
