I'm a new grad who has just been offered an ICU position and I could not be more excited right now! I received my official offer paperwork today and I'd really like to share with my family and friends that after years of hard work, I've been offered my first nursing position in the specialty that I love.
Did any of you do this when you were offered your first position?

Facebook didn't exist then.

Facebook wasn't around when I got my first job But since then, I have never really posted specifically about getting a new job. I think I may have eluded to the fact a few times, for example when I started my school nurse position, I believe I posted "Heading off to school with my kids!" or something along those lines. But nothing overtly job related.

Facebook wasn't an option. And if it's friends and family, why not tell them in person? I don't post anything work related on Facebook. I also don't post anything I wouldn't want to be public on Facebook even though I have my privacy settings as locked down as possible.

Be very careful - many facilities have strict social media policies. Saying you got your first job is fine, saying you got your first job on nights in the SICU at ABC hospital probably isn't.

I would never connect my employer's name with my own on social media ...because anything I'd ever said (or ever will say in the future) would then be connected to my employer's name, too. Learn to keep your work life and your "internet life" separate. I've seen people get disciplined and even fired over non-specific and seemingly harmless posts.

I was first licensed in February 2006, back when Facebook was unavailable to the general public. Anyhow, I share absolutely nothing about my employer on Facebook.

Most reputable organizations pay people to dig around the web trying find anything negative about their organization. While posting a job offer may be fine, anything negative like "what you did last night" could land you in hot water. The whole world now knows you work at Trump Clinton regional Hospital and they got their eyes on you on like a one eyed pirate.
Actually, that would probably be fine, too. Saying you got your first job at ABC hospital and you're dreading it because you know how much they suck. That wouldn't go over well.

Have seen this personally, and the person was friends with their boss.
