RN Starbucks side job?

I've been a nurse for 3 years and love my job, but only working 3 shifts a week, I find myself with a lot of free time. In college I worked at Starbucks and absolutely loved it, and kind of miss it to be honest. Would it be absolutely insane to get a part time at Starbucks not for the money but for my own enjoyment/sanity?

Earlier this year I visited a pregnant friend in the hospital who was on observation a few days before delivering her baby. One of her nurses told us she worked one day a week at Lane Bryant, a clothing store that specializes in plus sizes.

She started working there as a college student and kept the job all these years as a way of breaking up the monotony in her weekly routine. She also said the employee discount was a perk.

Anything that lets you use different parts of your brain, that you enjoy, and get paid for in the bargain, I say go for it.

Just remember that nursing is your primary job and pays the bills. Don't start picking up extra time at Starbucks just because it's fun. Even working only three shifts/week, you still need some down time to recover for the next one.

My daughter, who will be leaving for college in a couple weeks to study aerospace engineering and physics, is actively looking for stable hand jobs. The area of her university is fairly rural and the town boasts the oldest continuously running rodeo in the world, as well as trail rides for tourists, so there are lots of horses around. She actually really enjoys mucking out stalls and grooming horses, and if she gets to ride them for exercise now and then, she'll consider it a top level perq. I told her I think that's awesome because her focus is going to be so cerebral and high-level that something physical and down to earth like that will be a nice change of pace.

Having a side job you like and that relieves a little stress sounds like a great idea.

If you have time for it, then I don't see why that would be a bad thing? Especially if you would enjoy it. Plus, discounts at Starbucks can't be a bad thing, right? :)

I had a server at Olive Garden a few months back who was a nurse but worked one or two shifts a week at Olive Garden for a little change in her routine and the extra quick cash was nice, too!

I say go for it :)

That is the beauty of working three twelves per week: being able to pick up side gigs or hobbies. I have always said that I wish I got the opportunity to work at the movie theaters as I love film so much. I also wouldn't mind working at the public library or my favorite clothing store for discounts.

I say go for it, but remember that the breadwinning job always takes precedence over your side gig.

I used to fantasize about working at Target part time because my nursing job was so stressful. In the end, I couldn't justify trading the time for so little money. After all, I can go shop there whenever I'd like. What was it that you loved so much about Starbucks? Would it even be the same if you went back?

I've met a few nurses that strip for fast cash (honest truth), not that I frequent those places but I work with some that will talk about it. It's all hush hush as you can imagine what would happen if the hospital found out.

On some of my tough days I DREAM of quitting my nursing job and working at a job that requires much simplier days. Then I remember the pay... I worked in retail for 8 years through highschool and college.

I see nothing wrong with working a side job as long as you enjoy it. Who doesn't love Starbucks drinks??? Plus if you want to take a few online courses I believe they pay for their employees education from some college..

My brother worked in CCU and the ER and he also worked at a coffee shop!! His perks... He liked the free wifi on his breaks and he read in between during breaks to prepare for CRNA school!! He said he really enjoyed working at the coffee shop although his co-workers were a little perplexed about the situation!!!
