  1. I everyone I have 4 years of RN experience. My husband and I are moving from CA to MA for 1 year for my husband's fellowship. Do I tell potential employers that I will only work there for a year? I don't want to hurt my chances of being hired, but I also don't want to withhold potentially important information to potential employers. I'm hoping to land a job at the hospital that my husband is doing his fellowship, but will search other hospitals as well.
  2. Keep your Starbucks job and apply to literally every posted RN job. I don't know where in so cal you live, but the inland empire hires a lot more new grads than Orange County, for example. Don't be afraid to settle for a med surge job at a community hospital. After one year of experience it will be 100% easier to transfer to a more desirable dream job. You could also apply as a CNA at your preferred hospital - many of my friends did that and then we're almost guaranteed an RN job after 6 months
  3. I've been a nurse for 3 years and love my job, but only working 3 shifts a week, I find myself with a lot of free time. In college I worked at Starbucks and absolutely loved it, and kind of miss it to be honest. Would it be absolutely insane to get a part time at Starbucks not for the money but for my own enjoyment/sanity?
  4. Any specific reason why? Just it's reputation?
  5. I'm having a hard time deciding between CSUF and CSULB for their direct entry MSN (WHNP) program. I will be going part-time and working full-time on nights. I want to know what the differences are and which one is better. I think they are both 3.5 years long (I know CSUF the last semester is during the summer, but I don't know about LB). I know CSUF has a 6 week 40 hr/week internship the last summer. Does LB have something like this as well? How are preceptors determined? I heard that LB makes you find your own preceptors, while CSUF contracts them? How many days a week do you have class and clinical? From what I understand, the first 2 years at CSULB part-time can be 1 day a week, and the last 3 semesters have class 1 day a week with 20 hours/week of clinical and this would be considered full-time. How does CSUF work with class and clinicals and part-time compared to CSULB? Any opinions on which program is better for someone working full-time nightshift and going to school part-time?
  6. I've recently been accepted into grad school for WHNP/Midwifery for the fall as part-time, and I am also planning on working in the hospital part time. I currently work in med surge on days, but I just had an interview for L&D on nights (my DREAM floor, which is obviously why I want to be a WHNP). I don't know if working on L&D nightshift is doable/worth it compared to med surge dayshift during grad school. I want to work on L&D because I love OB and for networking once I become a WHNP/Midwife, but I've never done a night shift in my life, let alone during school, and I would also like to have somewhat of a life too! I've also been accepted into an online (4x more expensive) and on-campus grad school, and am torn there as well. Opinions on L&D nights vs MedSurge days during NP school?
