Betty Ackley died on Dec. 11 after a 9-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Many students and nurses have relied on the Nursing Diagnosis Handbook by Ackley and Ladwig over the years.

I swore by her nursing dx care plan book!
Rest easy Ms Ackley. Thoughts go out to her family, friends and colleagues.

She taught at the school I graduated from! Although she was retired when I went through there, everyone had nothing but great things to say about her. Thanks for posting this.

My heart goes out to her family. As for nursing diagnosis.... if I can't say anything nice I will just not say anything at all.

A name I've cited counted times... I'm grateful she shared her knowledge with us and made nursing diagnosis and careplanning so approachable.

Such sad news. I just bought her book for next semester! May she rest in peace and her amazing books continue to guide us.

Very well said. I share the same exact sentiments. :) She is one of the first nurses I only acknowledged by last name because I used her as reference so often in school. :)
OP: May she RIP as you have so aptly written. Thank you for this post.

Sorry to hear this. I found her nursing diagnosis book to be the easiest to navigate and I used it more than any other.
