So, we really need a place to log the ridiculous reasons some kids have to get out of class and come see the nurse. You know, those pressing medical problems like, "my lips hurt." I had that one today.
Earlier this year I had a student come see me because she had a hair on her tongue!!
Somewhere there is a teacher giving these kids a clinic pass for these visits!
What are the crazy reasons to see the nurse at your clinic??
Yesterday a boy was sent from recess to the health office because of dog poop on his shoe. Not fresh just-stepped-in stuff, but dried on, only on the bottom, stuck in the grooves, can't remove by wiping stuff.
Since the child was there, I did attempt to remove it but wasn't able to easily and I had 4 others in the office with me so I didn't make it a priority. I'm just a sub, so I don't know the teachers well...but I haven't seen a lot of frivolous reasons like that there...yet.
From the same student last week:
Day 1 - stomach/headache/I don't feel good/I don't want to be here.....
Day 2 - I have a pimple on my stomach
Day 3 - stomach/headache/I don't feel good/I don't want to be here.....
Day 4 - My ears sting when I play with my cousins
Day 5 - stomach/headache/I don't feel good/I don't want to be here.....
Pulled both student AND teacher into my office, and we had a serious talk about what was an "emergency", and what did not necessitate missing class time to come up to the clinic...
A teacher just sent a little darling to me because he is burping... burping and it is disruptive to the other students... really burping. Ten minutes with me and never the first burp. Heard all about this upcoming fishing trip with his dad, things going on with the family but never the first burp. It's Friday!!
I had a kid yesterday come into my office complaining that his burn was hurting(didn't have a pass so he had to go back and I knew what had happened). He came back with the pass just as the principal was in the clinic. She asked him what was wrong and I made him tell her what he did. He did the salt and ice challenge. Her face was dumbfounded.

Today, I had the pleasure of educating an 8th grade boy about the proper way to wear an Air-Cast for his sprained ankle. It took some time, but I finally convinced him that the Air-Cast SHOULD NOT be worn over his shoe, and instead, directly on his ankle with the shoe worn over the air cast.
