Ridiculous Reasons to See the Nurse

Published

So, we really need a place to log the ridiculous reasons some kids have to get out of class and come see the nurse. You know, those pressing medical problems like, "my lips hurt." I had that one today.

Earlier this year I had a student come see me because she had a hair on her tongue!!

Somewhere there is a teacher giving these kids a clinic pass for these visits!

What are the crazy reasons to see the nurse at your clinic??

7th grade boy, FF: I was on an airplane yesterday, and I think I'm still airplane sick.

Me: ...

Boy: Should I go back to class?

Me: ...

Boy: I'll go back to class.

I have the best pre-determined expression :bag: I give for this one...and add- "annnnnd what do you think I can do about it????."

Kid: My arm hurts.

Me: What were you doing when it started to hurt?

Kid: Writing

Me: Try printing.

Yup, really said it

I am sure this has been said already in this thread. :)

I just had a student in with an small, raised, itchy pink bump. And she had one on her leg, but it's OK, cause it's gone now.

A bug bite, you have a bug bite. Please go back to class! (Did I mention I work with high school?)

I have started having that conversation with my older kids (I'm elementary so that would be 4-5th grades) that you are going to have stomach aches and headaches in life, but you don't need to come to the nurse or get to go home every time. Sometimes, you need to learn how to deal with it. Have had to have this talk with many girls and their monthly aches.

Had a little ones come into my office this morning crying nonstop because she is "tired of the days being so long". Dang it, she wants to go home and play with her toys!!! She asked me if I could please announce over the intercom that we are leaving school early today....... Why yes, yes I can!!!! SCHOOLS OUT!!

Why yes, yes I can!!!! SCHOOLS OUT!!

Had a kid fall outside and c/o elbow and butt pain. I said "do the whip" and he did, "and do the nay nay (sp?)" and he did. Asked him if it hurt. He turned and left the office. Cracked me up.

I approve of the whip and nay nay as diagnostic tools. I think we should implement a policy.

My thing is this - why are these things not nipped in the bud in the classroom? If they send them to us, it sends the message that cry hard enough, you get your way!!
