Ridiculous Reasons to See the Nurse

So, we really need a place to log the ridiculous reasons some kids have to get out of class and come see the nurse. You know, those pressing medical problems like, "my lips hurt." I had that one today.

Earlier this year I had a student come see me because she had a hair on her tongue!!

Somewhere there is a teacher giving these kids a clinic pass for these visits!

What are the crazy reasons to see the nurse at your clinic??

Well that just takes the cake :)

Would that be "crumbcake?" bahaha!!

Just remembered a really funny one. Teacher sent a student down with blue legs. They did look strange. Teacher calls in a panic "I think he is having trouble breathing too."

New jeans=dye transfer to legs. Save another one!!!:geek:

Just had a teacher send K student down for CRUMBS in his hair. Lice phobic much??? Where the hell is common sense??

I'm not trying to story top you but I had a kid some down today for sand in his hair. I handed him a comb.

I had another kid come down because he scratched a piece of dirt out of his hair. The teacher asked me no less than 6 times what it was. I swear, it was NOT alive.

I just.....I can't understand why common sense goes out the window the minute people cross the threshold of a school.

Most of my teachers are parents. I try to tell them, "use your parent judgement." They rarely do.

I know. What do they do at home when their kid pukes? Call the paramedics? My baby threw up in my mouth twice and I still held it together. And NOT because I am a nurse, but because I am a PARENT.

I just read through all of these, and wow, thanks guys! I haven't been on all year because this year has been crazy for me, but this thread has been an awesome reminder that I'm not alone!

One visit I remember right off hand:

Kindergarten teacher: "He says he can't see. Can you re-check his vision?"

Me: Rechecks vision - he passes perfectly. "Why can't you see in class?"

Kinder student: "My friend sits in front of me."

If teachers would just ask basic questions...

You need to ask the right question to get the right answer. Very true with literal children like my son

"i bonked my head against the wall for 5 minutes at home this morning and now it hurts." (this at 2:30 PM)

Seriously???

This morning, one of my favorite senior boys.....

"I have to look like Gatsby for my English Class, can you help me out with some hair gel?"

Yup.

I pointed him to the shower and had him use hair conditioner and gave him a comb.

We are a Christian school. This week the kids can dress out of uniform as long as they meet the "modesty guidelines.: aka "no tight pants, yoga pants, tank tops." I tell my daughter "don't go looking like a skank & you should be fine."

Anyway, there's always that one girl that attempts to get by with the skin tight, spandex capri pants. They know their friend didn't get by with it yesterday so I'm not sure why they think admin will forget the rules today.

A super glam & fabulous girl came by in her short shirt and tight capri pants this morning and asks if I have extra clothes. Why, yes, I have the awesome bin of donated khaki skorts and pants, uniform style. She said, "but Ms. R said you have clothes."

"I do. These are my clothes. This isn't Macy's. This is Goodwill."

"But this totally will not match."

"This is what we have. Take it or call your mom to bring you something. I bet she'll love that."

She is now the proud wearer of the khaki skort, courtesy of the school clinic.

Hahahahahaha! Life lessons... My first year as a school nurse (my first few months really, since I started in March) the last day of school was 1 hour (so silly. What's the point?) and a bunch of girls came in with short shorts on. I'm sure they were thinking they were really getting one over on the school... but, sad day for them, while all their classmates were passing around yearbooks to be signed, they were sitting in the principal's office for the full hour with sour faces.

Sidenote: why is it that dress code violations are sent to the nurse's office?? I have no idea how it could be construed as a health issue.
