Ridiculous Reasons to See the Nurse

Published

So, we really need a place to log the ridiculous reasons some kids have to get out of class and come see the nurse. You know, those pressing medical problems like, "my lips hurt." I had that one today.

Earlier this year I had a student come see me because she had a hair on her tongue!!

Somewhere there is a teacher giving these kids a clinic pass for these visits!

What are the crazy reasons to see the nurse at your clinic??

Kid came in today because he feels like he's "been really hungry lately" and he "can never get enough food". He also said "I can't feel my stomach." This has been going on for "weeks".

No pain, no n/v no fever, not constipated, eating normally.

He is 14, so he may really just be hungry, which I told him.

He's a little anxious, so I will call his mom to follow up.

11th grader who was sick over the weekend came in to tell me that she has to go home because the other students in her class knew she was sick on Saturday and feel that she should go home. No temperature, a little congestion. I walked her back to class and told her teacher she is fine.

After what I ate and drink last night, I definitely feel BOTH. :/

(I spoke to mom. Apparently he has been complaining a bit, so she got an appointment just today with a GI.)

geesh, he is heading in for a growth spurt.....

I love hearing everyone's stories! I can commiserate with the lice phobic teachers! My favorite ridiculous reasons are when something is "stuck". I get a few stuck zippers a week. Yesterday I had a couple nonsense visits. One girl was outside and thought a bug was in her hair so she came down so I could look in her hair to make sure the bug was not in there. Another girl came to me with her earring (not in ear) stuck to her top that had a lace overlay. So how is this a medical concern? lol

Yesterday was a "slow" day so it didn't matter, but when there are multiple sick kids, it can really be a pain to deal with these things on top of the legitimate visits. I guess we are just looked at as the "fix it" person! :sarcastic:

Thank you! I only thought of that one last week when two girls were crying in my closet when they accidentally broke dress code and were upset at my poor selection.

I had a student come to the clinic the other day holding her arm stating that it hurts, and she needs some ice. I ask her how she hurt her arm, for which she replied, "I dunno" I go through a general assessment. She then states, "I think it hurts because a fell asleep on it." To which I reply, "You don't need ice for a sleeping arm."

11 YO boy 10 seconds after arriving in school. My stomach hurts because I ate garlic knots for dinner last night and for breakfast this morning. I'm sure I am allergic to garlic and that I have food poisoning. Can I go home?

Sigh í ½í¸£

Another ridiculous reason: Stinky gas - no stomach ache, no need to use the bathroom. Just passing stinky gas...
