Ridiculous Reasons to See the Nurse
11th grader who was sick over the weekend came in to tell me that she has to go home because the other students in her class knew she was sick on Saturday and feel that she should go home. No temperature, a little congestion. I walked her back to class and told her teacher she is fine.

Ridiculous Reasons to See the Nurse
While helping another student outside of the health office, a 3rd grader found a teacher to locate me so he could ask me for saltines. I asked what happened to his snack and he said that he didn't like what his mom packed. I told him that I am not the vending machine and go eat what his mom gave him. Really?? Health office not cafeteria....

Ridiculous Reasons to See the Nurse
Student: I was eating pretzels and now my throat is dry. Me: uh, did you drink water? Student: No. Me: Why don't you try that first and then see how you feel. Seriously????

Overnight Trips
I am going to DC with 26 8th graders for 4 nights and 5 days. Questioning my choice but the extra $$ will hopefully cover the craziness!

sick (pardon the pun) of teachers
Can I add: I am not a dentist or an orthodontist. I don't have the tools to fix broken braces or replace wires nor can I determine if a student has a cavity by looking in their mouth.

Ridiculous Reasons to See the Nurse
Today a 2nd grader came in because her hair was tangled and her mom couldn't get it out.

New to this.. Feeling like maybe I made a mistake
I was wondering how it was going? I started a school nurse position as a new grad on April 1 at a small, private school that has not had a nurse in over 5 years. The kids are pretty independent so I find that I give meds during lunch and respond to basic first aid and typical school day complaints-stomachaches, headaches, etc. The students are assessed by outside sources. I know I shouldn't complain because it is a very easy job but it is very lonely and sometimes boring. I have offered to help teach health or special topics but so far no interest. Any suggestions? I basically sit by myself until a student comes in. I even eat lunch at a separate time because I give meds at lunch.
