Random Thoughts: School Nurses

Random Thoughts about School Nursing not juicy enough for their own topic start here!

My mantra lately: "Wash your HANDS, go back to CLASS and cover your COUGH!"

Did you all know that plastic pop bottles, hurled with enough strength, can cause a head laceration with ensuing blood loss enough to cover shirt, pants, sink and floor?

I didn't know. Good information to have.

I'm feeling like a 3rd grade teacher sending a kid for chapped lips 2 minutes before the end of day bell was a totally legit clinic visit.

I really am.

I've wondered if using something like rubber cement poured over the area, let set and peeled off would work with some of the smaller or more stubborn splinters.

When I was a Camp Nurse I would use a baking soda paste over the would and cover with a band-aid. Have the kid return in usually 24 hours and it was easier to remove.

Maybe they were trying to show you the problem without letting others in the room know? Quick anatomy lesson should take care of this one.

To add to the splinter comments. I use lancets (the ones to test blood sugars). The beveled needle works great. Also, much easier to hold on to than a needle.
