Random Thoughts about School Nursing not juicy enough for their own topic start here!
My mantra lately: "Wash your HANDS, go back to CLASS and cover your COUGH!"
Ooooh! I am the Splinter Queen! I've only had 1 this year I could not get. The student walked on it for 2 days and it was too deep in for me to dig for it. SplinterOut is my best friend!
Tweezers are mine.
I have a "Splinter Kit" which includes various tweezers, nail clippers, SplinterOut, and a gigantic magnifier with light. I should start making YouTube videos.
I've wondered if using something like rubber cement poured over the area, let set and peeled off would work with some of the smaller or more stubborn splinters.
I like them.
I love taking out splinters. It makes me fee like a hero! I don't know why. When I was a camp nurse, I did all of the splinters even though there were five nurses. I use an 18/24 gauge needle. Works better than a tweeter.
When I was a school nurse, our janitor got a 3 inch bamboo splinter stuck in his finger. I pulled that bad boy out. He also had to get a tetorifice shot.
Even better than splinter removal was the 4 inch fish bone that I removed from a camp fishing instructor's palate. That was awesome!

Non toxic white Elmers glue works and is not as tough on the skin as rubber cement. Remember peeling it off my hands as a kid. Tape/duct tape or any strong tape just pull in the correct direction.
