Public Schools and transgender bathrooms.

Published

I didn't post this to argue the rightness or wrongness of the issue.

I didn't post it to debate civil rights.

Public schools are now mandated to allow students to use restrooms that reflect their gender identity.

I wanted to know if school nurses are going to be affected by the new policy.

How do they think their students will react. Do they think it will cause problems with kids.

Parents and administrators are a whole different issue.

What do school nurses think is going to happen?

Just one question for all the XY crowd out there.

What in the world do you think we ladies do in the bathroom?

We go into stalls with doors (most of the time; I once was in a rest stop bathroom where the stalls had walls but no doors. Never peed so fast in my life lol), and when we exit the stall we have already zipped, buttoned and adjusted everything that needed to be.

Yes, women tend to go into public restrooms in packs, but I guarantee that we do not strip down to our undies and engage in sexy pillow fights. No matter WHAT you've seen on the interwebs.

Guys in a ladies' restroom aren't going to get much of a show.

I do agree with the PP who thinks that NO ONE should have to shower in full view of others. That particular high school torture still makes me break out in a cold sweat.

I'm in awe that some schools already have policies in place for transgender students. Kudos to the school nurses that are making these children feel accepted.

This is why it is so important for nurses to receive comprehensive sexuality education. Biological sex is not the same as gender identity.

Furthermore, there are not only two chromosomal sexes. There is a small percentage of the population that are born intersex, who are forced to conform to a binary gender expression in order to not face harassment when choosing a restroom.

This conversation has steered into the territory of framing the issue around the "comfort" of transfolks, when really it's a huge safety issue. Forcing them into the bathroom of their biological sex opens them up to violence and harassment. Let's not overlook the masculine looking women being currently harassed for using the women's restrooms now that these laws are being "enforced".

If this was really about sexual predators and keeping children safe, it would be illegal for boys to use the same bathroom as adult men, who are by far the biggest threat to their safety when it comes to sexual abuse.

Well, maybe not ALL DAY. I mean, C'mon now.

Wrong thread!!! :roflmao::facepalm:

Bam, indeed.

When have we, as a country, not protected minority groups?

Uhh...

And also, I'm really kind of insulted you are pulling "the man card" on me. And a little hurt.

This is not about that. It's about kids in school having a safe place to pee!!

Not meant to be hurtful, truly sorry. Men think so much different, we are totally visual. There was a case already in California where a heterosexual young man declared himself trans and entered the girl's locker room. He undressed in front of girls and played it for a week. That one person made a group of probably 100 girls pay for his "comfort". I think this is a knee jerk solution, with lightening fast response that will be seen as such in a few years. Should LGBT students be protected? Certainly, let's have individual showers so transgendered will not be bullied.

Do you think this is the first time someone has been sexually harassed in a restroom?

By the way. Female. Visual. Thanks.

Thank you Mr. Outside of this school environment trans people have been using the bathroom that matches their outsides for years. Would you want your daughter to share a bathroom room with 'her'?

This is a grown man - not a student and he's pretty hot so not a scary picture at all for a teen

Since when did we mix in sex offenders w trangenders? Sex offenders are criminals & are going to do what they want regardless of the laws. There has been so little mention of hemorphadites, genetic mutations & other complex biologic reasons for gender ambiguity. When did our educated profession regress to a simple Dick & Jane answer?

I have never been so embarrassed to be from NC in all my life as I am right now.

This is such a non-issue. It has been blown out of proportion by the governor, Pat McCrory, who used to be the mayor of Charlotte, BTW, which is where this whole mess started. It is based on petty back room politics and it has been blown up into a national issue by people who haven't even read the HB2 law. It has been sensationalized by the media and by celebs who are using it to get themselves in the news.

And it pains me to see the intelligent people of AN drawn into it.

This is a ploy by NC to use the law to weaken the rights of workers and the rights of local jurisdictions. The transgendered bathroom thing is the dog and pony show designed to distract you from what's doing on behind the curtain.

Google the HB2 law and read it for yourselves, please.

As far as being transgendered in school, it was finally getting to be safer, and now all this drivel comes out. I am afraid for the children's safety if the parents start demonizing the LGBT community again. I never used the bathroom in my high school because I was afraid of being assaulted and I am cisgendered, but shy enough that the other girls thought I was a lesbian. I had my first kidney infection at 15. I don't want today's kids to have to go through with that.
