  1. Since when did we mix in sex offenders w trangenders? Sex offenders are criminals & are going to do what they want regardless of the laws. There has been so little mention of hemorphadites, genetic mutations & other complex biologic reasons for gender ambiguity. When did our educated profession regress to a simple Dick & Jane answer?
  2. You have to pay for daycare, esp sick baby care.
  3. We were told many impossible things. 30 min clock outs, don't leave the unit, respond to codes. No incremental overtime is huge!. Understaffed, new documentation, higher acuity & we get bad marks on reviews for working over. Often we can't even start charting until end of shift. Some nurses actually clocked out at shift change & then returned to do the remainder of their work!
  4. Wow what state is this?
  5. The MA at my PCPS office often refers to herself as "the nurse " This is so comm ok n here that I hustling try to ignore it. Yesterday after my visit with the PA I had some questions for him regarding post op pain control for upcoming surgical extractions of four molars. As she started to give me some grossly inaccurate advice ,I asked if she could possibly ask the Dr.since in the past they had given me different advice. I stood to the side of the desk, she could not see me. She never left her chair or picked up a phone but when she came back to me she told me she had spoken with the PA & he said the same thing, take Aleve or Advil. " its not gonna make the pain go all the way gone but it will cut it a little." She was not going to let me see the PA or relay my questions. Beside her outright lying, is she allowed to provide medication instruction not given to her by a physician? This is not the 1st time or 1st office I've seen this happen.
  6. Can he stay sober at work? I was drug screened at hire & not again for 20 yrs. If he can stay sober at work, he can go to a headshop & buy "cleaners" that will help him pass a urine drug screen. I know people that smoke off shift, these cleaners work but if hes going to be high at work tell him to practice his yard work skills.
  7. They didn't stay on, they didn't stay clean & every school had a different style. My graduation pictures are hat on. Hat is for Halloween only now.
  8. They removed all powder from our units for a similar or related reason. p.s. Its 2am here in Tx..noticed the "0657" on my entry time. A little OCD never killed a nurse!
  9. It was starting to seem like no one really understood her question until now. I also took the long route due to finances, lack of support and lack of guidance. I came from a very small backwards town and the goals set out for me included marriage and kids. Luckily for me it was also a military town and it was my military friends that opened up the world of higher education. So I went from aide to LVN to ADN to BSN and added a variety of specializations to boot. Personal motivation, a good nursing instructor and the reason you went into nursing to begin with had usually demonstrated to me the type of nurse you were going to be. The route you took to get to that RN never seemed to have that much impact on the type of RN you turned out to be. Honestly, the longer route had more clinical time, required more dedication and usually was worked harder for hence more appreciated. I don't know if this supports my theory or not but I recently had a young BSN start our ICU internship. She admitted that she actually stripped to help pay bills through school. About six months later, I think less, she quit. She said nursing was too much work for not enough pay and returned to her former "profession" She was not a bad nurse, she simply told us she makes in one or two nights what we make in a week and she did not have to tolerate rude patients, bossy doctors and unsupportive coworkers. She said she went into nursing because she hears it paid well and wasn't that hard to do. I guess everyone has their story but my first question to my new intern will always be "so what made you pick nursing." It has seldom let me down on what I had to work with.
