I didn't post this to argue the rightness or wrongness of the issue.
I didn't post it to debate civil rights.
Public schools are now mandated to allow students to use restrooms that reflect their gender identity.
I wanted to know if school nurses are going to be affected by the new policy.
How do they think their students will react. Do they think it will cause problems with kids.
Parents and administrators are a whole different issue.
What do school nurses think is going to happen?
It isn't normal.Problem could be solved by labeling the washrooms as XX and XY.
The biggest issue I see is the difference between what is allowed in schools vs what happens outside of schools. If a transgendered person is used to using the washroom opposite of their actual gender throughout school, it is going to hit the transgendered person hard when the person leaves school and tries to become a functioning member of society.
School is supposed to prepare children for the real world. By applying this "protection" to transgendered children, we are setting them up to fail.
Just stop.
As a school nurse, which is who the original post was aimed towards, I don't care which bathroom my students use. Honestly if they are male, but look like a female, and identify as female, and feel comfortable using the girls bathroom, do so. If they would be more comfortable using the boys bathroom, do so. Do whatever makes you most comfortable.
As for it possibly making everyone else uncomfortable, students shouldn't be looking at each others genitals in the restroom. Girls shouldn't have to worry about boys seeing their parts because they shouldn't be naked in the bathroom unless it is in a stall.
And I am against open showers in schools, period. I don't care what gender you are, kids should not be naked in front of other kids, just my opinion.
I wont discuss my feelings on public restrooms such as Target, Wal-Mart, etc. because that was not the question, and quite frankly my feelings get hurt easily and I don't want to be blasted for simply sharing my thoughts and true feelings on something.
My bathroom is always open. Anyone can use it. (Except for those pukers and poopers previously mentioned.)
I'm so sorry I hate this issue. I don't know how this will effect you as a school nurse. But I would advise you document anything that students report to you and also contact their parent(s). This issue is off the wall, and the actual percentage of "transgender"people in the country are less than 2% of the population. This is an issue with an agenda. IF the administration actually cared instead of trying to divide us, they would simply use the many bathrooms that exist that are called "family bathrooms" , where anyone is allowed. I honestly will deck the crap out of a guy in a ladies room.
And how would you know that the transgender woman in the stall next to you has a member?

I don't follow. What part of the real world will hit the transgender person hard? Transgender people use the bathrooms of the gender they identify with all the time. There's no one policing the bathrooms checking your genitals before you enter. I'm a woman and not transgender. I used a men's room twice in the last week because there was no line.
Also, you are confusing gender with sex. The gender the trans person identifies with IS their "actual gender."
Bam. With all due respect, you are not male. A teenage boy, given today's social acceptance of trans and LGBT issues will not hesitate to use this as a way to get into the girl's LOCKER ROOM. This is where he can enjoy the sights. Have you noticed that the ones here who think it will be abused are men, we know how we think. I wouldn't put myself past doing this if I were a teenager now. Sorry, but women are naive to think their daughters are safe in a locker room.
Thank you Mr.Nurse. I in no way am even remotely ok with a male being in a locker room or bathroom with my daughter or myself or my sister...and on and on and on. This is ridiculous and I really think is belong on the C'MON NOW! thread.

Normal, vs abnormal due to the fact they don't identify with their biological gender??? So a transgender student is abnormal??
I disagree.
