I LOVE med-surg! I loved the class and the clinicals and everything about it. You are not the only one!

I've found that I greatly prefer the topics that deal with body parts and processes. It's often hard to figure out what you'll be asked about the softer/squishier topics. My only clinical so far was LTC (I think this semester will be Psych), so I don't know too much about that part of it yet.

I've only been to two floors: Med Surge and Ortho. Out of the two, I find Med Surge way more interesting. So many different disease processes, variety of meds etc. Ortho has the same stuff over and over: Pain control, ROM, Physical Therapy, more pain control, CPM's.
Though it helps a lot when your instructor is good!

I loved Med/Surg on the clinical floor. Classroom, not so much.

I liked what I learned in med-surg class, but I really hated med-surg clinicals!

I had Med/Surg I last semester. I liked the class (even though I got a B in it - missed an A by a few points) because I find diseases and pathology pretty interesting. I wasn't a big fan of the clinical though, which was in a nursing home. I have Med/Surg II the second 8 weeks of this semester and that course's clinical is in a hospital. I think I'll like it a lot more.

it depends what kind of med surg floor you are on.. i was on one med surg floor where EVERY patient i had was a CHF patient. it became so boring, i wanted something different. i dont know where im getting placed this semester, but i know some of the possibilities are an oncology med surg floor, ortho, neuro, telemetry and just a regular med surg... im hoping i get put in the oncology group.

I'm a tech on a med-surg unit and I really like it because I get to see nearly everything that I've learned in class. I also like talking to the patients about their illness, starting from their initial symptoms and ending with their treatment and maintenance. I would like to work on a med-surg unit or telemetry because I like that too.
