President Trump and the First Lady Test COVID Positive

Updated:   Published

The News earlier tonight shared that Hope Hicks became ill Wednesday night, and tested today and COVID-19 positive --per President Trump's confirmed tweet tonight. A few hours later, he confirmed the First Lady and he tested positive and are now  in quarantine.

A lot of fuss has been made about the steroids.

I don't read much into it.  In my ER we dole them out for minor respiratory illness .moderate poison ivy exposure, etc...  We do all kinds of non-indicated treatments in the interest of customer service over patient care.

As far as it affecting his mental status-

Symptoms range from subtle mood changes to memory deficits to frank psychosis that can occur at any time during treatment; reports include mania and hypomania (35%), depressive symptoms (28%), and psychotic reactions (24%)

While I am sure this is accurate, what you are really looking for is deviations from baseline.

While there is a reasonable argument that anybody who can single handledly initiate a war that could end humanity should be monitored for known side effects, that is just not politically realistic.  In this case, clearly nobody on the campaign team is going to allow a psych eval.  Ever.

He couldn't speak a full sentence without taking a breath. Clearly, his respiratory problems are still causing problems with his oxygenation no matter 'what great drugs were developed during his administration'.

Great medical treatments and knowledge would have still been developed whether 'his administration' was on board or not.

I did a quick search and couldn't find out what dosages are given to Covid patients routinely.  I do know that in the OR, we give a large dose of dexamethasone one time on most intubated patients.  From personal experience I was flying the day of the procedure and crashing the next day.  The half life of dexamethasone is up to 72 hours so he could start crashing at any moment.....not sure it will be a smooth transition from steroid psychosis to steroid withdrawal but it's never pretty.

You know he dictated to everyone what he was to take (no hydroxychloroquine??? What?!) and when he would leave. Nobody has the cajones to stand up to this guy. His taking off his mask to me was the equivalent of a criminal act. People who expose others to HIV on purpose go to jail. This should be no different.

I have had it with this guy.

Not in the U.S., but we give 6 mg once daily for 6-10 days. Generally for severe or critical cases requiring oxygen therapy or ventilation.

Actually it is virus secure - hermitically sealed for terrorist attacks.  I imagine that the poor people in the car with him were terrorized.

I know ? but that’s usually to keep stuff out. That poor security detail ?

A bit of review...

It's nice to know that Trump is one of the 120k people that is treated with the donated Remdesivir doses.

Meanwhile in the fabricated autumn wave of COVID, the members of our Joint Chief's of Staff are all quarantined.

Thank you.  That seems like such a nothingburger dose and doesn't seem like enough to cause a steroid psychosis but what if the patient is already psychotic?:)

In March, there were genuine fears that hospitals in our hot spots would run out of personal protective equipment like N95 masks, gloves or, even worse, ventilators for patients battling respiratory failure. The Strategic National Stockpile hadn’t been refilled since the H1N1 influenza outbreak in 2009, and it had only 10,000 ventilators on hand.

And it stayed that way during  2017, 2018, 2019, and 3 months of 2020. Glad you jumped on that need after 3 years of running our country, VP Pence!

With Regard to Trump, I truly fail to understand how someone would support a President you cannot expect veracity from. I mean we all learn to tell the truth from a young age. What happened to Trump?

I wish for them what they wished for the American people.

This is Vice President Pense, talking about President Trump. "He rallied the American people to embrace social-distancing guidelines. And the progress we’ve made is remarkable."

President Trump has, in fact, shown by his actions that he does NOT think social distancing helps.

And don't get me started on his views on masks!
