President Biden thread

Wow.  No one has started such a thread yet?

After promising that most K-8 students would be in schools in the first 100 days,  apparently Joe is afraid to lead on this and has drastically scaled back that goal.

Instead, we're shooting for about half to go to school at least one day a week,  by the end of April.

Yes, as the Driver's Privacy Protection Act is based on federal regulations, it is applicable to every state.

Does a Driver’s License Fall Under Public Record?

The answer to this question can vary from state to state in some regards, but generally, the answer is yes. ...

... I read it as you suggesting that as the DMV possessed one's personal information (e.g., name, address, picture, etc.) it was a matter of public record.

Thus the reason I linked to NY DMV Drivers Privacy Protection Act (DPPA) site.

HIPAA data?  I'm not sure what you mean by this, or how HIPAA came into the discussion, but the reference was to medical and disability information that the DMV might have.

Did you bother to read either of the links I provided?

Natural gas is a fossil fuel that adds to global warming (methane release in processing ) plus problems inherent in transporting it.  The governor of Michigan is now playing chicken with Canada to closes the natural gas pipeline that runs under the Mackinac Bridge.   How would states that don't have volcanic energy manufacture hydrogen?  My point was that buying an electric car when you have to depend on fossil fuel to charge it, doesn't sound like such a good deal.  And you're right, that's not to even mention the battery.  But I'm figuring that some smart person will find a method to extract the obnoxious metals from the used batteries or come up with a substitute.  My Prius is now 10 years old and since I'm not commuting long distances anymore, I expect that it will last until I'm dead:)  I can walk or ride my bike almost anywhere I need to be.

Which makes me wonder, does Kamala Harris even know how to ride a bicycle?

Do you think she wears granny panties or a thong?

Actually, cyclists are discouraged from wearing underwear under padded bike shorts.

Just sayin'...

Remember when we used to import oil from the Middle East etc? Much farther distance than Yellowstone.

Natural gas is far less polluting than fossil fuels. And, hydrogen is even better. Thermal heat to make steam to drive a generator to make electricity to get hydrogen.

Think of all the cow farts going to waste. Methane to create steam for generating electricity.

The Fossil fuel lobby is stifling progress.

Yes.   got the "medical information" from your post:

xamples of personal and identifying information from the NY DMV Drivers Privacy Protection Act (DPPA) page:

photographs

Social Security Number (SSN)

Client Identification Number (CID)

name

address (but not the 5-digit ZIP code)

telephone number

medical information

disability information

My duh and I think I just got my own answer.  I was confused as to why the DMV would have any access to our medical information.  But I was slow to pick up on medical info doctors were obligated to provide to the DMV.  Got it.

Well sure, it's less polluting but it is still less than environmentall friendly.   I've been to Iceland and I appreciate the power of stream for home heating, etc.  But how are areas that aren't geographically friendly to steam production going to make hydrogen power for a future where 100% of cars are totally electric?  And, of course, the fossil fuel lobby is keeping us in a past century and I had a lot of fun this morning watching Katie Porter excoriate Mark Murphy in a House hearing last March.    I just think people are in denial about electric cars being pollution free.  I read that Elon Musk wants charging stations designed for Teslas only.  Do you think that it will be difficult to come up with a single configuation at charging stations that will accomodate all cars?

It's already a universal plug. Only in America would we ever consider bespoke setups.

I don't believe electric cars are the viable future. In Europe a regular sedan has a much smaller engine producing even more HP and averaging over 55 mpg and in many cases, up to 70mpg. The F150 is a V6 with turbos producing more HP and torque than an American V8. Also more economical.

People need to understand that the Europeans have a higher standard of living but less freedoms, because it takes sacrifice to achieve peace. They regulate their societies to improve safety and less stress. How many people were killed over the weekend in mass shootings?

We put up with such inferior vehicles until the Japanese got involved bringing our standards up.

You use LNG as the fuel. Hydrogen is by far the best alternative fuel source for vehicles. No emissions except water.

Yes, yes, I understand the differences between European and American societies.  And I also understand that hydrogen production often required natural gas in the production line AND then the hydrogen liquid has to be transported to the chargers.  Your countries and smaller and more crowded and people tend to conform to a style of behavior that endorses small personal sacrifices for the benefit of all (I'm so jealous!).   But we have vast open spaces.  Texas, alone, is larger than any European country.  I have to drive 2 1/2 hours to even get on an Amtrak train and I don't live in Texas.  assive effort That requires a m

I swear I was sober when I typed the above.  My edit didn't work.  What work.  We DO have chargers here that are only Tesla friendly:

Can a non Tesla Charger be used at a Tesla charging station?

" Yes, you can charge your non-Tesla electric vehicle on a Tesla charging station, but there are limitations and you'll need to first purchase an adapter. In the video above, we explain what you'll need, what you should be aware of, and list some of the equipment choices on the market."

But my original comment referred to people who buy an all electric car who never asked the question:  How will we fuel an all electric fleet in the USA? It struck me as incurious.
