Here's a question... how far in debt will you be when nursing school is all said and done? How many years are you spending in school? BSN or RN?
I will be $38,000 in debt after two years to earn an RN. This accounts for books and tuition and the loans I have to take to supplement my income and pay my bills while I'm working only part time. Wow, career changes are expensive...
$0 for my ADN thanks to grants and scholarships.
I love going the cc route. My sister is going to a 4 year university for elementary education and even with grants and scholarships, she has had to take out loans. I told her to take her gen ed classes at the cc, but she didn't want to do that. Even though my 2 yr degree is taking 4 yrs, I'll still be in much better shape after graduation. And later I can get my BSN on the hospital's dime.
I will be about 25,000 in debt when I cross the finish line in about 17 months. That includes 3 years of support courses and pre reqs, 3 dmat classes, a few classes that will go toward my BSN, and the full nursing program as well a money to live on so I don't have to work during the nursing program. I also get grants.
I am credit card debt free. This is my only long term debt so it should not be to bad.

Just about the same situation as you. My schooling wasn't too terribly expensive, but my lost income had to be replaced with loans.

Right now @ 7500, but I still have 2 semesters to go and will probably take the max amount out for another loan. So, it'll be about 12000. However, I do have my eyes on probable employers that pay off loans!!!
