Here's a question... how far in debt will you be when nursing school is all said and done? How many years are you spending in school? BSN or RN?
I will be $38,000 in debt after two years to earn an RN. This accounts for books and tuition and the loans I have to take to supplement my income and pay my bills while I'm working only part time. Wow, career changes are expensive...
About $13,000 here. BSN at a state college...thankfully I got lots of scholarships or it would be more. This was my first degree and mum & dad helped me out with the balance of what my loans & scholarships didn't cover (basically paying for the dorm). I have no car (so no car payments) & no credit card debt. Dad just passed away, so I'm staying home with mum to help out. I hope to be able to pay down my loan pretty quickly. No clue what I'll have to take out to get my master's in a few years...
just for my LVN alone, i hv a $21,000 loan and still trying to make monthly payments... i went to a private school...
i will be bridging to RN this aug '08.... it's a community college... i hd money saved up from my tax refund and used that money to pay my tuitions for jst the 2nd semester where im bridgin into.... i havent bought the books yet...
im currently working ryt now.. im hoping to save up jst enough money for books, and for the next two semesters...
i will still be going to work while in nursing school... the class/clinical will only be 3 days a week. im hoping i will hv enough time to study and jst a few hours to work to pay for gas and food....
i dont want to loan for my RN... I hv enough bills to pay. i do hv car payments, rent, bills, etc... though my mom is very helpful, i dont want to take her money either...
i jst cant wait to start nursing school....

Well please keep me updated on how things turn out. I didnt even know they had lottery assistance which is great. Luckily I have just enough pell to cover tuiton and most of my books. Of course this does not include uniform, physicals, and any other thing they may spring on me.
I was so greatful when my daughter went into elementary so that I didn't have to pay for child care anymore, it is so hard. You have to work just to pay for child care.
I wish you luck!
