  1. I would just like to say that I am a new RN grad (ASN) and I am unhappy with what we are compensated for our services in my area (northwest Florida). Granted I am "new," but I did attend 3 years of a college (pre-reqs included). However, that is what it is- just my opinion.
  2. I do understand it gets confusing. Another thing you have to take into account is the scope of practice for an LPN in FLA. I know of a hospital in the area that has not hired any LPN's in a long time d/t the fact they can't push meds, do admitting assessments, or intial wound assessments, or IV sticks. That hospital did away with the IV certification class all together for LPN's, it's not included in schools here. But, I am only stating what I know as I have no idea what the scope of practice is where you went to school. I'm glad to hear West Fl DOES hire LPN's. Good luck to you and if you need anything just let me know!
  3. Nope, I dont' mind at all I wish it was easier to find out the pay/benefits at prospective facilities. I only know of one hospital that offers loan payback in the area and it's Fort Walton Beach Medical Center. North OKaloosa does not currently offer it and I was also told Sacred Heart doesn't either.
  4. I will second that !!! I am a May RN grad from Northwest Florida State College (they have a 2 semester long LPN-RN bridge)I live @ 45 min from P'cola. The pay here isn't that great at all but I have accepted a job that will pay off 6000.00 towards my student loan debt. I am FT days @ 18.50. on a general M/S floor. Oh, I'd also like to add this facility has wonderful patient ratios (compared to others in the area). Normal is 4-5 patients NEVER more than 6! Congrats on graduating..
  5. Just an update; I passed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Checked with Pearson Vue this am. Good luck to everyone else who has posted on my thread. I wish you the best at passing your NCLEX as well..:anpom:*wine:hpygrp::dancgrp::clpty:
  6. Just wanted to share with everyone. I took the NCLEX today for the 1st time, I graduated May 4th, 09. The computer shut off @ 75. I had 10 SATA, 1 drag and drop, 2 OB, 2 peds, 10 meds (I never even heard of )4 psych, 4 endo, and the rest was a TON of infection control and prioritization, but no math. I can honestly say I feel like I only knew 2-3 answers, it just seemed like they didn't want to know anything I actually knew :0) Anywhoo, it's over now so we'll wait and see what happens; I am in Fl so I'll know in 48 hrs via quick results. I also tried the Pearson trick and did not make it through to the CC page. Wish me luck...
  7. I need to know if I need to bring all 3 pages of my ATT to the testing center, or just the first page? Can anyone share what they did? Thanks in advance!!!
  8. Just wanted to say that I can understand your stress. Tonight is my pinning ceremony-ASN. Three of the four semesters I had our "tough" instructor. Previous military nure with no family/heart/or compassion; alot of sarcasm/bitterness/and negative reinforcement though. You can and will make it through-try to keep a positive attitude and not worry that much about it. The more you worry the worse it will be. There were times when I was soo nervous I couldn't tell you what a aspirin was for!!! Looking back on it now I wonder why I let her get me so worked up. It seems silly now, but I actually appreciate most of what she tried to teach me. (She didn't really teach- just scared you to death so you read/reasearched that much harder). Best of luck to you- there is light at the end of the tunnel...
  9. All I can teel you is that I have my pinning ceremony this Monday. I was very let down with new grad positions in my area, Crestview/Ft. Walton Beach. But, after many job applications I got my first interview and job last week! I am hopeful that by the time you graduate the economy will be in a better state than it is today. I also just wanted to say that I was born in Avon Park and lived in Sebring and Wachula when I was little- heven't been back there since I was eleven. Good luck to you in your nursing school journey!!
  10. This semester was the first semester we had a REALLY great instructor. We got together and came up with the idea of a customized bobble head doll that was hand made to look exactally like her!! SHe has a wonderful sense of humor and it fit her to a "T." It cost @ 150.00, but there was 37 students @ the time so we each chipped in @ 4.00 each to cover the cost. We just gave it to her last week and she was floored to say the least. It even came with a 10 second voice recording so you could say something nice and she can play it whenever. If you want to check them out the website is whoopass.com
  11. I would just go ahead and take it. At the beginning of this semester I had to have er surgery; I came in (with a designated driver of course) two days later doped up on painkillers drooling (oral surgery) all over myself!!:0) I actually made a B on that test. Good luck...
  12. Hello all. I am having some diff. with my care plan. I already have my 2 priority diagnoses, interventions, rationales, completed. My problem is this. Diagnosis: Impaired skin integrity related to surgical and medical procedures AEB 16 cm incision of lateral aspect of R hip and L AC PICC line placement. Interventions:(this is the only interevention I am having trouble with) 1. Repsition pt q 2' rationale: dec pressure over boney prominances and improve circulation. Evaluation (pt's respone to the intervention NOT what you actually did)! This is my problem... What else could I put here other than what I actually did e.g. reposition patient q 2'? I am having major brain block:banghead: and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!! ~Vanessa
  13. My hubby just had a sleep study done. He has SEVERE obstructive sleep apnea. He had a combo study done (where they put the CPAP on the first night). His apnea is sooo bad his pressure is set @ 15! The machine itself is not loud at all, the only things you may hear is if you take the mask off then you hear the air forcing through the tubing. My advice is to get the sleep study done to the previous poter and use a baby monitor if your worried about hearing your baby cry. It has amde the world of difference in everythign about him. No more naps, bad moods, sleep disturbances, and nocturia. Good luck!!!
  14. I'm jumping in late, but here's a bit about me. My ears are 1/2" and yes I wear tunnels most of the time. I work in a hospital and none of the higher ups have ever said anything. I also have . . . let's see- 11 big tattoos- none visible in t-shirt and jeans. Also have eyebrow, nose, labret, belly button, and nipples pierced. Do I wear them everyday. . . no I don't. Am I worried about getting a job with them? No, everything except the gauges can easily be taken out without upsetting me. (I've had them soo long they are healed) It's not a "fashion" trend for me it's a way of life; My hubby tattos and pierces.
