  1. I am an IV certified LPN planning to move from Hattiesburg,MS to New Orleans. I currently work as a Psych nurse and make $14.70. If u have info regarding good places to work within(I'm going to be living n the french quarter if any places closer to there)-- PAY RATES!! Etc. Any info would b great. I would rather not do Long Term care but no preference on other fields.
  2. i am a nurse as of a year (lpn)... i have been hospitalized for bipolar disorder (even a psych dr i work for told me im prob "bipolar-ish".... the main bipolar drugs that work for me are antiseizure drugs...trileptal and lamictal...the geodon, depakote, lithium, etc were just too much for me... i don't fit ALL the bipolar stuff...up for days...but i def have manic traits. im acutally a psych nurse cause im so interested. im worried about myself right now...ive gone to my regular doc for med changes/increases...anyone out there that can relate? im worried about myself, my license, my career...im not an extreme case at all but when i feel bad i feel BAD.. also i find many in my psych field are in it cause of either personal or family history...
  3. Hi. I graduated july 2009. i really, really wanted a psych job so took one as a nurse on a very reputable acute care psych institute (private/adult). many said i made a mistake going to that instead of something more basic like med surg; however many of my patients have self-inflicted wounds and multitudes of serious health problems. anyway, an RN i work with said he got his 1st nurse experience ever as an lpn grad with a travel agency. does anyone know of good ones? i'm single and do plan to go back to RN school, but the travel pay may really help me do so. also, i'd love to travel. thanks so much. (also any tips on reputable online adn or bsn schools would be great)
  4. Thanks! I actually have been on computer applying all day and just applied for them BEFORE i got this message. they had an lpn opening at Haven of Our Lady of Peach long term care center. I don't even grad til July 31 but we have to apply at several places as part of our transition class, plus i've talked to some HR people and they've said it's ok to already apply. Even before I get my license, most places will hire as an advanced care tech first. thanks for your reply!!
  5. Thanks! In Mississippi our class is the first, but we graduate with iv certification, but i don't know if it'll apply in florida. thanks for your info. I'd LOVE to work in ER or something like that (which LPN's usually don't) but think i'll be living right in P-cola. I've been doing lots of research.. thanks again!
  6. Hey.. yeah.. i'm trying to look at all those things. In the past, LPN's in my state have had to wait a year and then train to be IV certified. However, we're the first grad class that we graduate with IV cert. We've already had the class and our sticks. But don't know how that'll be in FL. thanks for all your help
  7. thanks. I've been on the web hoping some human resources people would at least have e-mails listed but they DON'T so it's even more difficult. I've spoken to several on phone but with grad July 31 not TOO much info to get. But I wanna see ranges on salary but not sure if it's appropriate. I know i've worked at a clinic (as an office-- not hands on med job) and i didn't know my salary til i was actually offered the job. Plus, being from out of town and being so unfamiliar i'd love to know what i'm dealing with with some of these places. Thanks!! I called West Fl Hospital today and they had a couple LPN positions but of course it'll be bit of time since not grad til July 31 then have to take boards. thanks for your reply. As you know I'm sure, this gets kinda confusing.. lol.
  8. Hi Nurses Rock. Is it too much to ask, or do you mind telling me where you'll be working... or hospitals that may help with my student loans.
  9. Hi! I'm graduating from LPN program in Hattiesburg, MS, July 31st and am moving to Pensacola shortly afterwards. Besides vacationing there almost every summer at P-cola beach. Lol. I'm just looking for any advice at all about facilities in the area. At this moment, I'm thinking I may be interested in Psychiatric nursing. If not that, then a hospital or long term care. I'm not interested in working in a clinic at this time. Thanks for ANY advice!! I've also heard VERY mixed things about salary there. I had a friend that lived there and worked Long term care and said LPN's were paid quite well. (more than Mississippi anyway-- pretty bad here) Then I've read on these forums the pay is not very good?? I also plan to bridge for my RN in about a year but from what i've found out, Pensacola Community college offers the bridge program. Thanks again!! Stephanie
  10. thanks to both. I'm just going at all this pretty lost. We haven't really talked much at all about care plans yet and was given a patient and sent to do one. We have seen the format and such but no details about ordering other than the ABC's and a few notes about assessment. I think i need a whole care plan class...LOL thanks a lot.
  11. I'm on my first set of care plans i have due in nursing school. I feel really unprepared and like i don't have enough instruction from my teachers. My patient is admitted to hospital for UTI but is paraplegic r/t MS and also has pneumonia. Here's the nursing diagnoses i can think of. BOTH Ineffective Breathing Pattern AND Ineffective Airway Clearance. But he's also at Risk for Aspiration because of a PEG tube for nutrition and meds. Impaired bed mobility Distrubed: Kinesthetic, tactile, sensory perception Imbalanced Nutrition: Less than body requirements r/t peg tube and immobility. We only have to have 3 so what do i do?? What do i do when he has more than one respiratory diagnosis???!!! Thank you so so much for any help!
  12. Hi! Thanks for the info. I found that link earlier but it just confused me. So, you're an LPN? I will be in July. School has been more difficult than i thought it would be.. i definitely underestimated the program..lol. How long are these CE classes? I have to have them before I begin working in FL? Thanks again!!
  13. thanks! i thought the only state you have to retake it is california if i remember correctly but i just need to be sure before moving and all!! the fla state board nursing web site wasn't too clear from what i found.
  14. I'm in school in Mississippi and graduate from LPN in July 2009. I was planning on working here for about 6 months, then moving with my fiancee and his job to pensacola. I know Florida does not participate in the reciprocity that Mississippi participates in with 20 other states. However, I can't find anywhere if I'll have to retake the NClex or if I just have to pay for a new license and can use my MS NCLEX!! Please help!! Thanks!!
