Please Help Me . . . Advice Needed . . . How to Title a Post

did the title get your attention?

there are at least five threads floating around right now entitled "plz help me" or "advice needed" or "help please". none of them has any clue in the title what they're about. i don't know about everyone else, but i'm getting tired of clicking on these desparate requests for help and finding the thread to be about immigration -- something i know nothing about -- how, where or when to get a job or whether or not someone should be a nurse in the first place.

please -- when thinking up a title for your post, make it something that at least hints at the contents.

thank you.

Welcome to the internet. You will find a lot of sarcasm and conflicting opinions here. I also have a ton of extra AOL discs if you need more internet ;)

I'll also find pictures of people smearing themselves with marshmallow sauce and videos of a shrimp running on a miniature treadmill. Just because you can do something, should you? The mature individual is able to discern the proper context for his contributions. It is the sign of an amateurish viewpoint to think that whatever one communicates with advancing technology is cool because of the vehicle used, not the content. just because you can. So maybe you should go back to joining usenet groups and then work your way forward to mouses and colors and stuff. ;)

The original post was mildly informative at best. Instead of ranting and complaining, how about explaining in a concise and courteous manner how new posters can better title their thread. Instead, we get belly aching about something slightly annoying with overtones of pretentiousness and elitism.

So you thought you would demonstrate what a concise and courteous reply is by posting an annoying and pointless fit of sarcasm that did nothing to convey your actual opinion that Ruby should be more concise and courteous but managed to irritate most of the people who responded? I'm sure there must have been a more efficient way to school the veteran members here on how they should be writing their posts.

I have no idea why you would look for this and I really don't want to know. Whatever makes you happy ;) /shudder

Yes, because...

Hey all

Some people are also new and don't know how to use this forum. They might also be desperate for help, or extremely depressed, and haven't posted before, or aren't really sure what to put. It took me a little while to get used to this board, and I only just learned not long ago how to search for something.

Can I just say to all please be patient with some of these - I have to say this - dramatic people! They only want to catch our attention, and for me I find it quite interesting clicking on different title to see what it is about.

Don't forget that some people might be working, like me, away from home and don't have that many friends and the internet nursing forums are their only contact with people. And people who are very upset about something don't usually think straight re what they are posting either.

Just some stuff to keep in mind for when you get annoyed re the title - we're all here to help each other aren't we?

QFT...

If one can not quickly figure out how to use an internet forum, or take the time to browse the forum and figure things out, then I find it quite disturbing that they are (or will be ) attempting to "figure out" how to take care of people. Not to mention trying to figure out all the technology that goes along with it.

Seriously, people don't even spend the 3 and half minutes it would take to find the proper forum to start their thread in the first place.

Instead, we get belly aching about something slightly annoying with overtones of pretentiousness and elitism. I completely understand that a lot of people are long time users and post frequently; but recognize that some are not and may not be familiar with forum posting.

Start over and write something informative that can be stickied for prosperity

If you are not familiar with forum posting then do the smart thing and "familiarize" yourself with it!! I am sorry if I sound rude, but I feel that Ruby is a major cornerstone of this forum and everyone should be treated with respect. If you read enough of her postings you will realize that she says it how she sees it, but with a lot of class. Do yourself a favor and learn about this forum inparticular and how its memebers communicate before jumping to conclusions... Just my :twocents:. We love you Ruby!!:redpinkhe

I want to know how to post or start a new thread. I dont know how to do it. I looked around the site to try to find out how to start a original post. Please one of the very experienced ladies if you would tell me how I would appreciate it. I have always replied to others posts but I am wanting to be brave and start one. Thank you. :D

I had trouble finding this myself once. Upper left hand corner of the general forum page, not the top of the first page for any given thread. For example, click on Nurses (at top in yellow), then go to General Nursing, then go to General Nursing Discussion. Blue tab at upper left hand corner.
