Please Help Me . . . Advice Needed . . . How to Title a Post

did the title get your attention?

there are at least five threads floating around right now entitled "plz help me" or "advice needed" or "help please". none of them has any clue in the title what they're about. i don't know about everyone else, but i'm getting tired of clicking on these desparate requests for help and finding the thread to be about immigration -- something i know nothing about -- how, where or when to get a job or whether or not someone should be a nurse in the first place.

please -- when thinking up a title for your post, make it something that at least hints at the contents.

thank you.

Whew, Ruby, I was worried about you for a minute....

Oh yeah and it is kind of a "DUH" "DUH" when you see a post stating "advice needed" because a post means you are looking for advice.

If you cant come up with something to describe your post other than the obvious "I need help" then maybe you need more help than I can provide.

I personally hate the ones titled, "I have a question." Well DUH!

I've often wondered about the charting skills of the folks who rely on "Please Help" as the subject for a new thread. It seems to Me that there's quite a few similarities between being able to come up with a succinct, descriptive title for a post and the ability to write succinct, objective, and descriptive chart notes. But then again, I'm not a nurse so what do I know?

If just one person is reached by this message it will not have been in vain. I hope it helps (or HELPs or help!!!!!!!s or ....plz..helps........:p) ----- but if the words "enter a descriptive title" next to the space for your thread title doesn't register we would probably need to dial back the complexity of the directions instead of increasing it by writing paragraphs, even though you demonstrated the essential qualities of direction-following and reading comprehension that a nurse must have by using the title "how to title a post". But everyone learns differently. Studies have shown it.

I admire your strength and courage to get through these threads each day. You're an inspiration to us all.

To waste precious seconds clicking on a mysterious thread must be exhausting, let alone the energy required to complain and hit the back button.

Keep fighting the good fight for all of us.

Is that supposed to be lighthearted and humorous? If not -- you must have lots of free time if you think taking the time to write a pointless, sarcastic reply is a better use of your precious seconds than Ruby's was attempting to advise people on how they might get more replies to their threads.

I clicked on this one, Ruby, because it was from you. I usually read your stuff.

For those others ... I usually drag my mouse down a little and see the little blurb that includes the first sentence of the OP. Then I decide whether or not to open it.

But I agree: it's frustrating to not have a clue about a thread until you open it.

I don't get the blurb on the iPad-so I ignore those threads...

Whatever. Got the sarcasm.

Stay around here as long as Ruby V has and tell us that you don't get jaded and/or tired of same-ol, same-ol posts, most of which have no answer.

Freaking hilarious!:yeah:

Ruby Vee,

I get the frustration, but is anyone making you visit this website? Are mouse-clicks that hard to pull off? "HELP ME" posts are never well thought out and, for the most part, obnoxious. This is a FREE public forum that can and does attract anyone who can use google...expect some stupidity.

I love your posts. I just think you're wasting your ire on this one.

I was also surprised to see this from Ruby. But I have always read your posts, Ruby and as I have stated in the past, I enjoy the pearls of wisdom that you offer. Your experience and tidbits of information are helpful and I love your "no holes barred" approach to questions. Some of the advice that you give has been very insightful and I have learned from you.

As far as the post by B52-H...dude, seriously?

Yes, the titles of some of the posts should be more focused.

I didn't exactly read "ire" in Ruby's post. More like mild annoyance. You have to admit that there are times when nearly every post is HELP URGENT ADVICE NEEDED ASAP!!!! when the poster wants opinions about which nursing school to apply to when they finish high school. And then there are the strings of initials that make no sense whatsoever: HELP DESPERATELY NEED OPINIONS ON ABQURT/ITS/ GORL IN PA. OR NJ. Those annoy me most. Yes, we know we can ignore such posts, but what's really wrong with a little advice on how to properly post?

You know what gets me, even more than the ubiquitous "help me" thread, is the thread titled "advise please"

It's advice people, you are looking for advice.

So, I will advise you that even spell check will not catch all the nuances of the english language, but I don't know if you will take my advice.

Welcome to the internet. You will find a lot of sarcasm and conflicting opinions here. I also have a ton of extra AOL discs if you need more internet. (Derp Derp)

The original post was mildly informative at best. Instead of ranting and complaining, how about explaining in a concise and courteous manner how new posters can better title their thread. Instead, we get belly aching about something slightly annoying with overtones of pretentiousness and elitism. I completely understand that a lot of people are long time users and post frequently; but recognize that some are not and may not be familiar with forum posting.

Start over and write something informative that can be stickied for prosperity
