Plastic surgery etc. to defy age

Published

Rant warning....maybe someone in the biz can enlighten me but what the he!! is happening to all the old women in my town? I'm in a fairly affluent area with lots of retirees and omg their skin looks like tissue paper with an expressionless stoma for a mouth. Is is surgery, sandblast dermabrasion, botox, lip fillers? All the above? :scrm: These are trim, healthy what used to be very attractive age appropriate women and now they look like freaks. Not a wrinkle on their face but sheesh they are pulled so tight its a miracle they aren't sporting a gootee.

plastic surgery is definitely big business- and yes, patients do tend to come back for more procedures, and little tweaks here & there to keep that youthful look-- nothing lasts forever, not even facelifts or boob jobs!! we do a lot of plastics where I work, and though I've thought there's a few little things I'd like to change, I'm not quite willing to undergo anesthesia & the required recovery time for vanity. However, I don't begrudge anyone who has the money & wants to look better. Good plastic surgery does not result in tight faces that don't move. The problem w/many people undergoing plastic surgery- and we do patients in their 20's - 80's- is that low self esteem cannot be fixed w/a scalpel. If there are underlying issues those people will never be happy just by altering their appearance. Unfortunately, some plastic surgeons will do anything for money.

Dolly Parton had it right when she said, "If it's falling, bagging, or sagging, I'm going to tuck it, pluck it, or suck it. I would probably have plastic surgery performed if I needed it. :lol2:

Nothing wrong with using Medical Surgery to enhance ones beauty.

Breast Augmentation, Nose Jobs, Skin Lifts, Tummy Tucks, Face Lift, Eye lid surgery, and I will even go as far as saying Lap Bands and Gastric By Pass and Gastric Sleeves are forms of Plastic Surgery.

We are trained as youth to have Medicine to enhance ones beauty. Look at Braces for the teeth, that in my opinion is a form of Plastis Surgery and that starts in your pre teen years.

Gastric surgery is not cosmetic or plastic surgery, there has to be a medical need. Please quote your source of medical information, in the USA to be a certified center you must meet certain criteria.

It is not performed by plastic surgeons an sometimes the weight loss can can issues that require plastic surgery.

My kids had braces since they had malocculsion which prevents dental decay.\

As far as Plastic Surgery, in my opinion is always a medical risk, which people once informed should be allowed to choose, but you have to ask yourself the question - is the surgery worth loosing your life?

Thank you for responding. It makes me sad that our society is so hard on females of all ages, sigh. FWIW I am in their shoes to a certain extent so I feel justified in ranting especially if it becomes an accepted practice and I will be expected to be snatched so tight I'm ready to burst at some point. While I was never a Cindy Crawford look alike my looks in my youth were pretty good and I was used to the things being fairly attractive brought. In recent years I have just had to accept that despite staying fit and keeping my weight down it doesn't mean for one second that I look like I'm in my 30s any longer...no matter what lengths I go to.

i very much, relate to this post.

although my 'looks' used to bring certain advantages, it is nothing i ascribed any value to.

as a result, being 50 w/gray streaks and laugh lines, i truly celebrate who i am today.

my dtr is 19 and gorgeous.

yet she has been raised to downplay her physical attributes and enhance her intelligence and creativity.

so if she gets stopped by a cop for speeding, she wouldn't think of batting the old eyelashes.

i personally believe there is waaaaaaay too much emphasis on physical beauty and it has always bothered me.

there should be absolutely no shame in growing older.

i enjoyed my youth and now i'm enjoying my middle-age.

2 separate and distinct phases of life, totally.

but to try and retain youth/beauty?

it really bothers me that women can't/won't grow into themselves and enhance their qualities, age-appropriately.

but that entails accepting and liking who and where you are in life.

if 'they' don't like it, they can kiss my still-ok behind (or so says the hubs):lol2:

Three words as to why this is happening: Baby Boom Generation.

Every age stage they's passed has been a big deal. Time was there was a fortune to be mad bronzing their baby shoes, etc.

However, it's easy to overlook the 95% of women who are truly aging gracefully and judge "what's going on with women these days" based on a few who stand out in a crowd. Although, I'm sure in certain parts of the country like Beverly Hills there are more, but downtown hometown women across the country aren't buying it.

Leslie said it best, but let me echo her sentiments: There is NOTHING wrong with being one's authentic self, even if it comes with gray hair and wrinkles. The heck with this "50 is the new 30" nonsense---I'm NOT 30, didn't like myself when I was 30, and wouldn't want to be 30 again for anything. I love being 50 and indeed have earned the privileges of being this age.........it's OK that I also look it. People take me and what I have to say seriously now. I am respected for having developed wisdom and grace over the years. Why ever would I want to exchange these benefits so I could look like a princess again?

But, that's just me.:smokin:

Wait a minute! Ive had plastic surgery and I do not look expressionless. When I was younger, I was attractive and it did have advantages, but I was not happy with what I began to see in the mirror so I did something about it. I am glad I did it, would do it again if I had to do it over. Later, I may do it again. dont put down people just because they did something to make them feel better about themselves. Im sure there are others on here who have had some nicks/tucks/sucks. There is honestly nothing wrong with it and anyone who thinks badly of me for doing it needs to open up their mind. There is nothing wrong with making yourself feel better. Im sure alot of people would do it too if they could afford it or wouldnt be embarrassed about it. Dont judge.

Dont judge.

Order noted.

My teeth would have caused a lot of problems without braces. It wasn't an issue of vanity at all.

Relax no one was saying all plastic surgery is bad or unnecessary unless someone ends up looking like they were slapped in the face with a raw liver. :D

Incorrect.

I have had 2 nieces in their early 30's get the Lap Band last year, They got it cuz they were both overweight, neither were on any type of medication, They got it done to loose weight and look better.

Had a male friend I went to college with, He had the Gastric Sleeve about 8 months ago. He has went from 270 to 190 and he looks good, He had no medical condition, On no type of Medication, He got it to simply loose weight and look good.

This is my defintion of Plastic Surgery............:icon_roll
