Rant warning....maybe someone in the biz can enlighten me but what the he!! is happening to all the old women in my town? I'm in a fairly affluent area with lots of retirees and omg their skin looks like tissue paper with an expressionless stoma for a mouth. Is is surgery, sandblast dermabrasion, botox, lip fillers? All the above? :scrm: These are trim, healthy what used to be very attractive age appropriate women and now they look like freaks. Not a wrinkle on their face but sheesh they are pulled so tight its a miracle they aren't sporting a gootee.

Don't knock it too much. There is lots of cash to be made in the plastics industry. The best part is that they keep coming back for more!

It's an epidemic happening all over the nation! I'm thinking I need to go into Aesthetics- better hours, less stress- now we're on to something!

Yes indeed! And, patient satisfaction is based upon how stone faced the person looks. Heck, if you do it right, you won't be able to tell how happy the person is by the expression on their face :lol2:

Unfortunately our society worships the young and disrespects the old, especially old women. It is understandable that a percentage of older women will try to look younger. Unfortunately also, you cannot predict precisely the outcome of plastic surgery and it is not very reversible. Tools that are supposed to give an idea of the outcome are biased to sell you on the surgery. At the plastic surgeon's offices, it's often all about sales, and the very real risks are sometimes downplayed. I have been there.

I would not rant about this, just try to be understanding of people who sadly cannot accept the fact of their aging. Until you have been in their shoes and victimized by age bias, it is not compassionate to judge.

What is beautiful anymore?? I am still pretty young and so may have a completely different outlook on this whole issue in 40 years but seeing these highly "altered" faces is not as attractive to me. Their is something so beautiful about a women (or man) who is healthy and takes care of herself and, you can tell takes a little extra time out to spend on her appearance but it's natural. A little gray hair and laugh lines are NOT unattractive. Its only when you combined it with someone who has completely given up on their appearance ("I'm too old, what does it matter" or "I'm married I don't need to worry about that anyone") that is sad to me. But this new idea that when your 40 you should really look 20 and when your 60 you should shoot for 40.... I think I will take my money and go on a big old trip instead thank-you very much!

I would be asking who is doing their work, because it doesn't sound like good work. I've had a face lift, brow lift, laser facials, Juvederm around the mouth, lower eyelid surgery, fat injected into my lips and under the eyes and a nose job. I don't look like I've had surgery and I don't look like I'm 20 but I do look very, very good for my age. There is nothing motionless or expression lacking in my face. Then too, I've never done Botox, I just don't see where I need it.

With a good surgeon you won't get the look that you are describing. Maybe the person doing the work wasn't a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, which is the only type that I would ever let touch my face. You can get work done cheaper, but the results may be unpredictable.

Nothing wrong with using Medical Surgery to enhance ones beauty.

Breast Augmentation, Nose Jobs, Skin Lifts, Tummy Tucks, Face Lift, Eye lid surgery, and I will even go as far as saying Lap Bands and Gastric By Pass and Gastric Sleeves are forms of Plastic Surgery.

We are trained as youth to have Medicine to enhance ones beauty. Look at Braces for the teeth, that in my opinion is a form of Plastis Surgery and that starts in your pre teen years.

DeeAngel, I'm going for a little work soon. Blepharoplasty, laser resurfasing, a little lipo under the chin.

The problem is too much. Joan Rivers has no skin left to liftr. She also walks and sounds like the LOL she is and just looks like an alien. And her hands tell all.

overall, i think plastics to reverse the aging process, is a bunch of nonsense.

but braces as a kid?

if poor dentition is going to affect a kid's self esteem, and even his willingness to smile, to me that's huge...

and braces would be necessary.

Yeah, the peeled back face and hands that looks like ancient death are NOT a pretty combination! lol

Thank you for responding. It makes me sad that our society is so hard on females of all ages, sigh. FWIW I am in their shoes to a certain extent so I feel justified in ranting especially if it becomes an accepted practice and I will be expected to be snatched so tight I'm ready to burst at some point. While I was never a Cindy Crawford look alike my looks in my youth were pretty good and I was used to the things being fairly attractive brought. In recent years I have just had to accept that despite staying fit and keeping my weight down it doesn't mean for one second that I look like I'm in my 30s any longer...no matter what lengths I go to.
